On October 1st, 1991 the Federal government of Nigeria established it as a federal university and the name was changed to the University of Uyo. The university inherited students, staff, academic programmes and the entire facilities of the erstwhile University of Cross River State established by Cross River State in 1983. 2.) Director of Physical Planning
Job Title: Director of Physical Planning
Location: Uyo, Akwa Ibom
Requirements
- At least a good Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Architecture or Quantity Surveying not below Second Class Honours Lower Division, from a recognized institution;
- Evidence of registration with the relevant professional bodies;
- Ability to perform within the University System;
- At least 20 years post-qualification cognate experience in Physical Planning for Engineers, Planners and Quantity Surveyors or 17 years for Architects;
- Ability to give direction to the complementary functions of the entire arms of the Physical Planning Directorate;
- A good and practical knowledge of Computer applications;
The right candidate can also be a professionally qualified and experienced officer not below the rank of a Deputy Director of Physical Planning with at least 4 years’ experience on the post.

7.) University Librarian
Job Title: University Librarian
Location: Uyo, Akwa Ibom
Duties
- The University Librarian shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the overall administration of the University Library, branches and extension and for providing library services for the entire University Community.
Qualification and Experience
Candidates for this post must:
- Possess a good honours Degree in Library Science from a recognized University, plus a higher degree (preferably a Ph.D) with at least fifteen (15) years of relevant experience, preferably in a University;
- Be professionally qualified and practicing librarians;
- Have contributed to knowledge through research and publications in reputable journals, as well as possess proven records of sound administrative leadership;
- Not be below the rank of a Deputy Librarian;
- Be a person of proven integrity.
Tenure
- The tenure of the University Librarian, as a Principal Officer of the University, is for a single term of five (5) years.

8.) Bursar
Job Title: Bursar
Location: Uyo, Akwa Ibom
Responsibilities
- The Bursar shall be the Chief Financial Officer of the University and shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day Administration and control of the financial affairs of the University.
Requirements
Applicant must possess the following:
- A good honours Degree in Accounting or Economics from a recognized University as well as professionally recognized Accountancy qualifications, e.g. ACA, ACCA, CNA, ACMA, CPA. Possession of a higher degree will be an advantage.
- In addition, applicant should have at least fifteen (15) years cognate experience and must have been a Deputy Bursar with experience, preferably in a University or similar institution.
The Person:
- Applicant for the post of Bursar, who should not be above sixty (60) years of age must exhibit a considerable degree of competence, responsiveness, demonstrable integrity and transparency on matters of financial and human resources management.
- He/she must be Information Communication Technology (ICT) compliant and must be conversant with current trends in International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS) and International Public Sector Accounting Standard (IPSAS).
- In addition, interested applicants are required to write in not more than five hundred (500) words, proposal for fund generation and management in a University.
Tenure
- The tenure of the Bursar, as a Principal Officer of the University is for a single term of five (5) years in line with the Universities Miscellaneous Provisions Act 2012.
Salary and Conditions of Service
- The successful applicant will be placed on the consolidated salary for Bursars and will enjoy all the allowances attached to the position of Principal Officers in Federal Universities in Nigeria.
