1.) Medical Interpreter
Job Title: Medical Interpreter
Location: Maiduguri, Borno
Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract

Work state End Date: 10th July, 2023
Contract: 208 working hours per month and roster flexibility required
Main Purpose
- Perform oral and written translation, from the mission language to local language(s) or vice versa, in order to ensure simultaneous, accurate, friendly, respectful, objective and fluent communication between MSF staff and local population.
Job Description
- Translate medical terminology, instructions, diagnosis, and discharge plans into Hausa, Kanuri Shuwa arab and Gamargu -speaking caregivers or guardians.
- Interpret verbal communication accurately and sensitively between Medical Team and Hausa, Kanuri, Shuwa arab and Gamargu -Speaking patients and caregivers.
- Provide cultural insight to help the medical team better understand traditional beliefs and practices that may impact pediatric care.
- Support the medical team during morning round in terms of verbal communication.
- Translate documents from / to mission language into a local language and vice versa upon request.
- Translate discussions / meetings as requested
- Always keep respect towards patients, collaborators, authorities, military factions and MSF staff participating in discussions.
- Ensure confidentiality of all translation is maintained as directed by the Mission/Project coordination team.
- Ensure neutrality and accuracy when translating.
- Declare any “conflict of interest” when asked to translate (e.g. personal involvement) which would necessitate using other staff members for translation.
- Inform international staff about local customs, tradition, etc., that will help understand better the context and better communicate.
- Assist/ call for help in case of medical emergencies or report any anormalies with the patient to the Doctor and supervisor
- Always be professional, observe the MSF charter, arrive at work on time and maintain good relationship with all staff.
- Be presentable, example appropriately dress, hygienic body and behave appropriately in front of patient at all time
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality, and that patients cannot be discussed outside of work.
- S/he should be flexible as duties can be changed according to the program needs.
- To respect the time schedule and be at work on time
- Maintain good relationship with other team members
- Participate in monthly Community leaders (Bulamas) meeting which happens once per month.
- To provide the translation without modification on the meaning of the information’s spoken.
- Taking time to explain the patients on the doctor’s prescriptions as indicated to make sure that the patients understand on how to take their treatments while they will be at home.
- To be available in any activities where the translator will be requires such as in wards, Health Promotion, and counselling team etc. and keep secret to all information’s that are considered as confidential.
- To participate in other external activities like blood drives and assessments if necessary
Requirements
Educational Qualification:
- Essential: Secondary education. Health oriented background is an asset.
- Desirable: Official translator degree (Mission working language)

2.) Driver - Coordination
Job Title: Driver - Coordination
Location: Sokoto
Employment Type: 1 Year definite contract (with possibility of extension)

Main objective and responsibility of the position
- Performing the tasks of transporting authorized goods and passengers in an MSF vehicle, ensuring its technical and safety conditions, and respecting the traffic rules in Nigeria, and MSF security rules, in order to provide a safe, smooth and efficient service.
General Accountabilities
- Checking daily, the technical conditions of assigned vehicle (state of the tires, oil, fuel, brakes, radio equipment, spare parts, etc.), performing weekly check according to the MSF Logbook, refilling it when necessary, and keeping it clean to ensure it can be driven in perfect conditions. Carrying out a hand over if another uses the vehicle.
- Ensuring the security of passengers in the vehicle, driving carefully, observing MSF-OCA speed limits and traffic rules in Nigeria, as well as MSF security rules, in order to avoid car accidents.
- Ensuring all passengers have all necessary papers in order before travelling, and ensuring non MSF staff sign disclaimers of responsibility before using the vehicle.
- Ensuring correct loading and unloading of the vehicle, submitting documents associated with transported goods to the recipient, checking the status of delivered goods, returning the duly completed documents associated with transported goods to Logistics, and ensuring that the goods have the necessary documents.
- Ensuring that all vehicle documents and driver's license are valid, and are in the vehicle for possible inspection by road/vehicle inspection agencies.
- Informing the line manager of any incident involving the transportation of passengers and/or goods.
- Knowing how to use all types of radios, codes, call numbers and radio alphabets by heart and communicating with base according to MSF communications policy to inform the driver's position and any potential implications.
- Knowing and respecting the security rules related to vehicle movements, specifically those related to customs, checkpoints, roadblocks and curfew. Ensuring all passengers know and respect the security rules
- Carry out any other task that may be assisgned by line supervisor or manager.
Context Specific Accountabilities
- Good use and interpretation of Maps (Online, Offline, Hardcopy), and GPS.
- Ensure to keep a good decent physical appearance always, and use close ended shoes, while driving MSF vehicles.
- Ensure comprehensive handover is conducted between drivers, before ending and starting a duty/shift.
- Renewal of your driver’s licence before it expiration.
- Liaise with Radio room or line supervisors/manager for task scheduled for the day or period, when resuming for duty or work.
- Ensure to be calm, polite and respectful while responding to vehicle bookings/reservations by passengers via phone calls or physically, and when communicating with passengers.
- Carry out weekly checks on vehicles in collaboration with Head of Drivers / Mechanic / Line Supervisor.
- Vehicle maintenance should be monitored to know when it close to it service km/period.
- Respect of defined MSF speed limits.
- Ensure vehicle doors are locked when passengers enter the vehicle. This should be done before driving.
- Seat belts should be worn by all passengers before driving.
- Ensure to get a very clear description of your destination, before driving. If not clear, ask for clarity using landmarks, maps or direction from colleagues or passenger, before embarking on a trip or movement.
- Proper record of movements with clear name, destination, time and signature of passengers on the vehicle logbook.
- Fuel dispensed into vehicle should be clearly recorded in the vehicle’s fuel log book.
- Every equipment or tool handed over in the vehicle should be carefully used. Equipment and tools in the vehicle are not to be taking out for personal use or used in another vehicle without approval from line supervisor or manager.
- Adhereance to operational instructions and responsibilities given by the Radio operator / Line Supervisors / Line Manager.
- Communication of every vehicular movement with the radio room. This should be done before, during movements and on arrival.
- Adherence to MSF standard operating procedures, guidelines and rules.
- Maintenance and cleaning of MSF vehicles.
- Ensure to have good knowledge of Sokoto and it environs.
- Carrying out other responsibilities as detailed by Line Supervisor or Manager.
- Perform duties observing MSF policies and in compliance with relevant SOPs of the department and immediately reporting to supervisor whenever compliance is or cannot be met.
Requirements (Qualifications)
- Education: Essential literacy and driving license.
- Good knowledge of country roads
- Experience: Essential 2 years minimum of previous driving experience
- Desirable experience with 4x4 vehicles
- Desirable in MSF or other NGOs
- Good Knowlegde of Sokoto route and surrounding states
- Languages Mission language and local language essential.

3.) Infection Prevention and Control Supervisor
Job Title: Infection Prevention and Control Supervisor
Location: Talata Mafara, Zamfara
Employment Type: Full-time
Main objective and responsibility of the position
- Implementing and supervising an infection control program in a project or health facility, according to MSF protocols, safety and IPC measures, in order to ensure quality of care and safety of patients, caretakers and staff
Accountabilities
- In collaboration with each service activity manager, maintaining and supporting the day to day implementation of the standard precautions in health structures in all departments including sterilization, laundry and kitchen, and providing technical supervision, training and support to the staff on IPC related issues using existing tools such as audits, checklist, surveillance
- Implementing and monitoring adherence to additional precautions for air, droplet and contact transmissible diseases when indicated. Based on a given patient-diagnosis, evaluating the need and supporting the implementation, if needed, for additional precautions in collaboration with the medical team and act accordingly
- Implementing as planned, the correct ‘clean and dirty flows’ inside the health facility. Ensuring that environmental standards in the facility are respected (bed spacing, number of handwashing stations etc.) and together with the Hospital Facilities Manager and WHS Supervisor, that the essential requirements are available in the health structures
- Guaranteeing compliance to aseptic care techniques and to the correct use of antiseptics, disinfectants and detergents.
- Checking the consumption and the quality of IPC materials and equipment, including cleaning materials and equipment, PPE, etc.
- As member of the Infection Control Committee, participating in and supporting the development and following up the Infection Control Action Plan.
- Supervising the team under his/her responsibility and participating in the associated HR processes (e.g. recruitment, training/induction, evaluation, potential detection, coaching, development and communication) in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required.
- Reporting any irregularities to NAM or IPC managers or PMR and producing reports with information recommendations for the monthly medical reporting
- Note: IPC standard precautions include Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), hand hygiene, prevention of accidental exposure to body fluids, safe and appropriate treatment of re-usable medical devices, waste management, cleaning and disinfection of surface and environment, respiratory hygiene and individual hygiene for staff, caretakers and patients IPC essential requirements include water supply, solid waste and waste water treatment/disposal, latrines and shower facilities, dead bodies management, vector control and medical waste management
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
Specific Accountabilities:
- The IPC Supervisor in Zamfara Project is the main responsible for the implementation of all IPC related activities, protocols and different recommendations to ensure quality of care and patient safety in MSF Health Facilities including Anka General Hospital NEP IDP, clinic and Talata Mafara ITFC ward. The IPC Supervisor works closely with all multidisciplinary team members to raise awareness and ensure IPC issues are identified and addressed by all staff members.
- As a member of the Infection Control Committee, participating in and supporting the development and follow up of the Infection Control Action Plan and other communication activities are key (may support MTL with minutes/agenda/action points, also may chair the meeting in absence of MTL)
Liaison with all Managers/Supervisors and Balanced Leadership and Communication Skills:
- In collaboration with WatSan team, ensure maintenance of a clean and hygienic environment.
- In conjunction with Supervisors/Managers, carry out training of all staff (Medical, Lab, Hygiene Agents, Watchmen etc.) on relevant IPC information - IPC Pillars and aseptic technique.
- In collaboration with ITFC Matron in Talata Mafara ensure IPC protocal and policy are in place in the ward, milk kitchen and in the waste zone.
- In Conjunction with Watsan, focal person and Nursing Team Supervisor ensure waste segregation at the source and subsequent collection in different wards and keep high hygiene standard.
- In collaboration with the NAMs, ensure there is adequate signage on Safety Precautions in all the clinical areas.
Stock Management:
- Under leadership of Nursing Activity Manager and Pharmacy Supervisor ensure ordering, storage and management of IPC materials (hand sanitizers, surfanios and hexanios, chloramine solutions, face masks, disposable gowns etc) for daily usage.
- Contribute to the monthly MedLog meetings/processes to ensure rational use of IPC supplies.
Supervision & Policy /Protocol Implementation:
- Supervise, coach and support hygiene agents working in the Hospital (APW) and IDP through duty allocation, making roster, leave plan and perform yearly performance evaluation.
- Provide technical support to the Laundry team by ensuring clean and adequate bed linen are in circulation.
- Ensure vector control in the hospital wards and other departments(use of light insectide etc).
- Supervise and support IRS and deep cleaning in the various wards.
- Reinforce the implementation of the standard precaution in all departments ie. Use of PPE, hand gloves, prevention of needle stick injuries.
- Ensure safe and appropriate treatment of re-usable medical devices(cleaning ,basic disinfection,high disinfection or sterilization.
- Organise and lead regular IPC meetings in the hospital and report on the results, challenges and action plan.
- Policy management of IPC activities in all locations and work in conjunction with all heads of departments to ensure and supervise implementation of IPC policy and protocols.
- Supervises directly the Sterilization Technician and ensure small surgical materials are safe for patients, sterilization procedures follow IPC protocols, and provide necessary training.
- Ensure compliance of the 3 IPC pillars (Hand hygiene, Cleaning and Disinfection, transmission based precaution) in MSF health facilities including Anka General Hospital and IDP Clinic.
Reporting:
- Be responsible for monitoring of hand hygiene compliance using the hand hygiene observation tool (HHOT) and monthly updating of results and communicate the score to the team.
- Carry out SIPCA assessment with support from line manager and subsequent writing of action plan after the SIPCA score.
- Report IPC activities in the MMR
- MSFAT assessment.
- Other: Gap fill WatSan focal person in case of absence.
Requirements

- Performing the day to day purchasing activities in a particular supply office (coordination or project level) according to MSF protocols and standards in order to ensure an optimal running of the mission/ project.
- Performing on a day-to-day basis the purchasing activities of a supply office, analysing market sources and competitive pricing conditions among different suppliers to ensure an ongoing supply of goods, following the procurement procedures and according to MSF standards and protocols. Including the following activities:
- Constantly assessing the local market, seeking products and suppliers that offer the best value for money and negotiating prices to guarantee the best quality and pricing for MSF goods and commodities.
- Regularly updating the supplier-item-price data on the supply office and informing the Supply (Activity) Supervisor / Logistics Supervisor of all information or modifications to the data i.e. price, address, items available
- At the request of the line manager, obtaining different quotations from suppliers according to the MSF Purchasing policy and placing purchase orders to pre-selected suppliers with whom prices have been agreed
- Requesting invoices or receipts, without delay, for all purchases, checking they are correctly filled and translating information written in local language before approval
- Managing the administrative and accounting procedures related to purchases: completing purchase orders, checking delivery notes (against orders), managing advances issued by the Finance Department, etc. Updating information on Purchase lists after purchases are made
- Assisting in the reception control process with the storekeeper
