AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

1.) Project Surveyor

 

ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

• The Project Surveyor will set out, survey, coordinate and control all survey related activities in all project areas including underground rehab, surface and underground construction, installations in shafts, etc., while ensuring that survey targets are delivered as per planning of project.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Work compliantly with the requirement of government of Ghana agencies, environmental, health and safety legislation and AGAG regulations.
• Timely investigation of incidents and accidents with reporting
• Accept personal responsibility for health and safety and that of every mine worker by his/her work. Also have a duty of care for themselves and others in a working environment.
• Adhere to the site’s environmental management plan.
• Promote and implement human resources development practices to ensure respect, improve loyalty and enhanced relationship between workmen
• Provide leadership and support for the entire team to achieve sectional goals
• Work with authorities, other peers and subordinates to control and manage mining projects, seek out, lead and apply underground best practices and continuous improvements practices to deliver sustainable cost, efficiency and promote workmen health and wellness
• Set out, survey, coordinate and control all survey related activities in all project areas including underground rehab, surface and underground construction, installations in shafts, etc.
• Accountable for the implementation of survey specifications, standards, and safe workmanship to ensure the timely completion of Obuasi Phase 3 project.
• Ensure survey targets are delivered as per planning of project.
• Proactively control the construction survey activities to avoid potential project cost and schedule overruns
• Ensure cost impacts in area of accountability are evaluated and recorded
• Prepare weekly, monthly reports which provide accurate and timely information that can clearly convey the status of safety, cost, schedule, and quality for the survey works

Qualification Required & Experience

• BSc. Geodetic/Geomatic Engineering

Experience

• 5 years post-graduate experience in construction/underground survey
• Must be a good user of Surpac and AutoCAD software
• Ghanaian Driver’s License

Technical Competencies

• Understanding of survey principles and practices
• Intermediate surveying computations to include traversing, inversing, translation and rotation of data, simple curves, closures of figures and areas
• Understanding of surveying software and computer aided design (CAD) equipment in preparation of survey plats
• Ability to prepare and write legal descriptions from deeds of record and from data acquired from field surveys
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of cartography
• Knowledge of Land Acquisition Procedures, Part VIII, Mapping Standards
• Knowledge of algebra, geometry and trigonometry

Other Competencies

• Lead by example to create a safe working environment, where risks are assessed and managed, so tasks are performed without risk of injury or harm
• Identify skill deficiencies and initiate corrective actions for direct reports
• Communicate policies and procedures in a manner to achieve full understanding and compliance.
• Monitor the risk and risk mitigation plans for all activities for the construction works
• Deliver the Safety Management Plan elements for the areas under the incumbent’s control

2.) Senior Project Specialist

 

ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

• The Senior Project Specialist will manage the development, co-ordination, performance, management, maintenance and improvement of mining infrastructure works at specified locations and on allocated projects.
• He will also ensure that accurate and timely reporting standards are maintained throughout the project(s) while coordinating with project team and site management on status, significant trends, and changes of approved projects.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Work compliantly with the requirement of government of Ghana agencies, environmental, health and safety legislation and AGAG regulations.
• Accept personal responsibility for health and safety and that of every mine worker by his/her work. Also have a duty of care for themselves and others in a working environment.
• Adhere to the site’s environmental management plan.
• Work with authorities, other peers and subordinates to control and manage mining projects, seek out, lead and apply underground best practices and continuous improvement practices to deliver sustainable cost, efficiency and promote workmen health and wellness.
• Promote and implement human resources development practices to ensure respect, improve loyalty and enhanced relationship between workmen.
• Provide leadership and support for the entire team to achieve sectional goals.
• Commission and handover instrumentation, associated control, networking and cabling systems to also comply with the requirements of AGAG’s Quality Assurance and Quality Control.
• Manage the development, co-ordination, performance, management, maintenance, and improvement of mining infrastructure works at specified locations and on allocated projects
• Ensure accurate and timely reporting standards are maintained throughout the project(s)
• Coordinate with project team and site management on status, significant trends, and changes of approved projects.
• Establish the working relationship with operations management needed to facilitate the coordination and execution of project work, such that the operational impact is minimized.
• Ensure safety and QA/QC programs are established by all parties and maintained and conduct reviews of detailed design, drawing and specifications
• Assist with project QA/QC and commissioning systems and documentation
• Maintain effective and on-going communications with construction and contractor management teams
• Assist in developing plans for progress and growth, including best practice and technology
• Manage risk, including monitor performance against targets, to achieve maximum profitability by providing savings in operational costs
• Identify in a timely manner all current and potential risks to the success of access rehabilitation, stripping, construction and development (where necessary) activities utilizing the established Risk Management System, identifying activities and strategies to eliminate, manage or mitigate these risks

Qualification Required & Experience

• BSc. in Mining Engineering or equivalent

Experience

• 6-8 years post-graduate experience in mining projects and or mine planning
• Good user of mining software – Surpac, AutoCAD, Studio 5Dp, etc.
• Mine Captain certificate will be an advantage

• A great multi-tasker who is organized and able to excel in a fast-paced environment
• High level of computer skills including MS Word and Excel
• Exposure to project scheduling software packages

3.) Contractor Administrator

 

ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

• The Contractor Administrator will be responsible for a variety of complex contracts from various clients and client-affiliated business ventures.
• He/she will see to the efficient organisation and coordination of project contractor employees and monitor contract requirements to ensure company and counter party compliance with contractual obligations.

• Organize and schedule contractor employee trainings to minimize disruption of work
• Efficient organization and coordination of project contractor employees
• Maintain an organized filing system for project contractors
• Suggest and implement improved work methods and systems relating to administrative tasks
• Provide administrative support to project owners relating to contractors
• Learn, interpret, and apply AGA/Obuasi Redevelopment Phase 3 policies, rules, and regulations to contractors

Qualification Required & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or equivalent

Experience

• 2-3 years post graduate experience in a similar role
• Ghanaian Driver’s License

Technical Competencies

4.) Senior Resource Planner

 

ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

• The Senior Resource Planner will work closely with Supply Chain, Project Package Owners to ensure availability of spares at all times, efficient organisation and coordination of Project materials & resources. Also identify in a timely manner, all current and potential risks to the Refurbishment, Construction and Maintenance activities utilizing the established Risk Management System, identifying activities and strategies to eliminate, manage or mitigate these risks.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Work compliantly with the requirement of government of Ghana agencies, environmental, health and safety legislation and AGAG regulations.
• Accept personal responsibility for health and safety and that of every mine worker by his/her work. Also have a duty of care for themselves and others in a working environment.

• Ensure availability of critical spares which are repaired and fit for purpose.
• Ensure reduced duration for offsite repairs to critical assets, planned before removing
• Ensure storage/transportation standards are in place and compliant
• Ensure safe staging areas within the Shaft Banks/ Workshops that comply with site regulations
• Ensure external labour requests that comply with site entry policy
• Identify in a timely manner all current and potential risks to the Refurbishment, Construction and Maintenance activities utilizing the established Risk Management System, identifying activities and strategies to eliminate, manage or mitigate these risks

Qualification Required & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Project Management

• 4-5 years’ experience in similar role
• Knowledge and experience in Transport & Storage standards for managing critical assets and continuous Improvement.
• Experience in development of work packages, methods, and standards necessary to achieve efficient maintenance.
• Knowledge and experience in Projects and contractor management.
• Exposure to project scheduling software packages is highly regarded

Technical Competencies

• Sound analytical, planning, implementation, and supervision skills.
• High level of computer skills including MS Word, Excel and Microsoft Projects
• Project Management
• Knowledge in SAP

• Good communicator with the ability to form and maintain good relationships internally and externally
