1.) Strategy and Special Projects Lead

Job Title: Strategy and Special Projects Lead

About the Role

  • We are seeking a Strategy and Special Projects Lead to join our team. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience working in a fast-paced private sector environment, ideally in a consulting or finance role, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality strategic analysis and recommendations.
  • The Strategy and Special Projects Lead will report directly to the Chief Strategy Officer, although will work to support the wider senior leadership team to drive strategic initiatives that will help our business achieve its goals.
  • This role will sit within the Strategy & Business Development team, and working on fundraising pitches and proposals is key to the financial health and success of the organization.

Responsibilities
Business Development / Fundraising:

  • Successfully raising funds to support Maisha Meds’ activities is a core function of the Strategy and Business Development team, and being able to develop clear, strategic proposals is a key pillar of the team’s work, and will comprise around 50% of the role.
  • Developing the ideas for new activities, and leading on the production of high-quality proposals and supporting materials to funders, which may include document or slide deck formats.
  • Developing detailed budgets to support proposal submissions
  • Building external relationships with funders and other relevant stakeholders in the sector to build our network of opportunities.

Quantitative and qualitative analysis:

  • Leading in-depth research and analysis on healthcare market dynamics, competitive landscape and operational challenges to identify strategic opportunities and risks, and designing potential interventions or solutions to meet these challenges.
  • Lead financial analysis and modeling to support business case development and investment decisions.
  • Leading quantitative and qualitative analysis to support discussions and funder engagement around implementing a results-based financing approach to funding Maisha Meds’ work

Development of strategic initiatives and special projects:

  • Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams across the organization to develop and implement strategic initiatives, including working closely with the COO to lead the analysis and design of special operational projects to ensure the organization is able to meet our ambitious growth targets.
  • Deliver research, recommendations, and guidance on scoping new program areas for the Maisha Meds subsidy (loyalty) program, to include identification of health needs; potential impact; feasibility; and funding landscape. Work closely with the Director of New Program Incubation to ensure seamless handover of ideas that are successful in securing funds to initiate.

Funder & Board engagement:

  • Prepare and deliver presentations to the senior leadership team to communicate findings, insights, and recommendations on strategic questions.
  • Lead on preparation of materials for quarterly Board meetings, working with teams across the organization to ensure relevant and accurate content is included for Board review.
  • Lead preparation of materials for funder updates on ongoing programs, working across the business to secure timely and high-quality inputs for donor reporting.
  • Work with the communications lead to ensure that all external messaging and communications are aligned with organizational strategy and aims.

Personnel development:

  • Mentor and train junior team members to ensure their professional development and growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Economics, Finance or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a consulting or finance role, with a focus on strategic analysis and planning.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to rapidly assimilate data and develop insights and recommendations to be used in both short-term decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex information to a variety of stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and other analytical tools (Maisha Meds use the equivalent Google suite of programs).
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

2.) Engagement Manager

  • We have ongoing engagements to support the data needs for several family planning and malaria programs in partnership with SEMA, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and several ministries of health to provide data back to them on private sector consumption habits of over 6 million patient encounters yearly.
  • The organization is looking for an enthusiastic engagement manager who can independently deliver on and oversee projects in partnership with our excellent data team
  • The role would include identifying the right types of analyses to be done, building the analyses and dashboards, developing reports and other deliverables for our clients, and engaging with the data team to support building a streamlined data product from these individual sets of analysis.

Responsibilities
Oversee data cleaning and analysis:

  • Independently deliver on creating visualizations in BI tools (Redash and Metabase) using best practice tools and quality code to provide ongoing visibility of health and commodity consumption trends
  • Oversee analysis of trends and come up with interesting findings in our data
  • Spearhead data cleaning efforts and automations by building maintainable tools using Excel and Python

Lead data product development:

  • Work with external stakeholders and clients to understand their ongoing data insight needs and scope out comprehensive approaches to building dashboards
  • Capture feedback and provide product specs and overviews of analyses needed to data team to productize our data offering
  • Begin to understand how stakeholders interact with and use our data to refine the dashboards to meet their needs, using both quantitative and qualitative approaches to understanding usage trends

Develop externally-facing reports and presentations:

  • Write interim and final reports summarizing trends and insights from data analysis activities outlined above
  • Prepare presentations, policy memos, and blog posts to share these data insights with an external audience

Skills & Qualifications

  • Mastered preferred in field of Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Biomedical Science and Public Health
  • 5+ years of experience in quantitative analysis and project management
  • Strong Excel / spreadsheet skills: lookup, logical, and text formulas, pivot tables, data functions, etc.
  • Product management to understand data usability and applicability of data analyses and adapt the presentation to the needs of users

Job Summary

  • We’re looking for a Senior Product Manager to lay the foundation for our patient wallets product, alongside leading work on other new program product requirements.
  • The patient wallet is at its early stage, with backing from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to initially develop a product to serve women in Uganda, and we are looking for its first core members to join the team.
  • This team will be responsible for building the foundational platform that will be used to launch the patient wallet in Uganda and across our other core markets in due course.
  • The purpose of the wallet is to enable patients to pay for subsidized healthcare through pharmacies in the Maisha Meds network.

Who We’re Looking For

  • An enthusiastic and diligent team member who would join the Product team with a key focus on creating the best digital experiences for customers.
  • You will be responsible for product strategy, planning and execution throughout the full product lifecycle.
  • This includes but is not limited to researching, gathering, and prioritizing requirements, defining the product vision, goals and success metrics. This role is a mix between discovery and delivery and you’ll work closely with the UX/UI Designer, Chief Product Officer, and the rest of the product, tech, and operations teams.
  • The ideal candidate should have a background in product management, preferably with some prior experience working with healthcare or payments products.
  • You ​​should also be data-driven in decision-making and comfortable with monitoring analytics and deriving insights from how products perform and determining the future path of iterative improvement.

What You’ll be Doing

  • Develop and implement product strategies for both digital wallet and other potential new programs consistent with Maisha Meds vision
  • Collect and analyze user insights from customers, stakeholders and other teams to shape requirements, features and end products and lead design sprints  for key product features
  • Work with senior management to create product plans and roadmaps, prioritize backlog, and oversee feature breakdown
  • Ensure products and releases are launched correctly and on schedule
  • Make creative recommendations to expand product base and vision

About the Role

  • We build a point-of-sale Android app for pharmacies to track their sales and manage their inventory.
  • On top of the Android app, we have a layer of features to help us administer programs so that patients visiting pharmacies can receive subsidized medication.
  • We also built a suite of back office tools to help our operational staff manage the subsidy programs.
  • This role is for an individual to manage a remote team of engineers across North America, Europe, and Africa working on projects related to the subsidy programs.
