1.) Data Analyst II
Ref: IITA-HR-NRS2021-015
Location: Ibadan
Recruitment Type: National (2-year renewable contract)
Duties
- Work with Data Manager and the Excellence in Breeding Platform (EiB) on the adoption of a data management system (Enterprise Breeding System - EBS) for storing and retrieval of information.
- Curate historical data from the Maize crop improvement program into templates for migration to the EBS.
- Check the quality and integrity of the data to be uploaded to the EBS.
- Ensure that the CG-core metadata standards are adhered to for all Maize improvement data.
- Perform data wrangling of large datasets to fill defined templates.
- Define and implement data standards and best practices for Research Data Management by developing ontologies, phenotyping protocols, quality standards, Trait dictionaries, templates and fieldbooks.
- Maintain coherent repository of Crop Information (genealogy, phenotype and genotype) allowing public access and secondary use for predictive breeding and comparative biology.
- Assist members of the Maize breeding program to capture data electronically and use the EBS to manage the day to day activities of their breeding programs.
- Perform any other job-related task duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualification and Experience
- BSc/HND in Computer Science, Biometrics, Research Methods, Bioinformatics or other related field with three (3) years relevant experience in data management.
Competencies
The ideal candidate must have:
- Experience in data management, R Data wrangling.

2.) Field Manager (Yam Multiplication)

Job Details
- The successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:
- Support scientists of the AfricaYam II project and Yam Breeding unit in the multiplication of true-to-type, disease and pest-free yam to ensure project goals are accomplished using high-quality planting materials
- Integrate new technology to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations including mechanization, bar-coding, electronic data collection and management, high-throughput phenotyping, and rapid multiplication techniques.
- Provide technical support, capacity development and training to the project.
- Contribute to the development and dissemination of training documents (Flyer, newsletters, posters, training manuals etc.).
- Collect, collate and summarize field, screen house, and lab data using electronic devices and management software to prepare reports, monitor multiplication rate and maintain accurate inventories.
- Liaise with other units for pathogen and pest testing and to obtain phytosanitary certificates for tubers or plantlets to be distributed to partners.
- Coordinate with Germplasm Health Unit and Genetic Resource Centre staff to establish and maintain virus-free stocks of yam for back-up, multiplication, and distribution of breeding materials.
- Supervise and coordinate the implementation of the weekly plan for research technicians and field/screen house assistants.
- Prepare protocol for the multiplication of seedling, vine-cutting and tubers in screen house or field and supervise the implementation of these protocols.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Project Leader.

Qualifications
- Master’s in Plant Science or related fields with a minimum of five(5) years relevant experience in a well-structured organization.
Competencies
The ideal candidate must:
- Be experienced in Semi Autotrophic Hydroponics and high ratio propagation of clonal crops.

- We are looking for an experienced Manager who will be responsible for coordinating, planning, and leading all Facilities Management Services (FMS)of IITA, which include Automotive Services, Transport Pool, Building and Grounds, Construction, Electronics, and Instrumentation Services, Heavy Equipment and Fabrication, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning, Power supply and generation, Production of potable water supply to campus, Sewage treatment, Management of a large housing estate of 88 houses / apartments.
- The person should bea highly technical skilled, experienced, flexible, forward-looking, and motivated leader who is also not afraid to get her / his hands dirty. A people person with excellent interpersonal skills who can bring our FMS to international standardsand provideexcellent services for our users.The successful candidate will be responsible for preserving the good condition of infrastructure and ensuringthat facilities are safe and well functioning.
- The ideal candidate will be well-organized, up to date with moderntechnologies,especially greener ones, and optimize the use of space and equipment while reducing operating costs.The Head of FMS reports to the Deputy Director-General for Corporate Services.
Position Responsibilities
The Head of FMS will:
- Lead and coordinate Facilities Management Services.
- Manage and lead the FMS teams: Automotive Services, Transport Pool, Buildingand Grounds, Construction, Electronics and Instrumentation Services, Heavy Equipment and Fabrication, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning, Power supply and generation, Production of potable water supply to campus, Sewage treatment, Management of a large housing estate of 88 houses / apartments.
- Supervise, develop, appraise, and retain staff to deliver services in a client-focused, efficient and effective manner.
- Prepare work schedules and outline work assignments.
- Plan and coordinate training for staff to ensure they have the knowledge and skills needed for operating and maintaining current and future systems and technologies.
- Lead on preventive maintenance programs for laboratory analytical instruments, office equipment, housing infrastructure, systems, vehicles, HT power grid distribution network, and heavy earth-moving equipment.
- Utilize in-house technical skills and technologies and propose outsourcing wherever it will be economical and technically feasible.
- Assist in preparing technical feasibility studies and cost estimates on new projects.
- Oversee construction projects and liaise on infrastructure, equipment, andvehicles.
- Ensurethe safety and security of all installations and take responsibility for health and security standards.
- Coordinate the proper functioning of the FMS central helpline staff and act as a liaison between FMS and other service units, clients, suppliers, etc.
- Review and approve purchase requests. Maintain inventory and ensure adequate supply of materials, parts, and related equipment and supplies in collaboration with the Supply Chain / Procurement unit, by proposing and adjusting Re - Order Level(ROL) of critical items.
- Manage capital and operational budgets as well as plan and monitor expenditures.
- Take part in the One CGIAR Business Operations Community of Practice to leverage collaborative and shared services.
- Perform any other job - related duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
Educational Qualifications
- The candidate should have a minimum of BSc or an equivalent degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field.
Core Competencies:
- Relevant work experience of at least 10 years, in an international, multicultural organization or company, with experience in Africa, preferably Nigeria.
- Expertise in at least three (3) of the service areas, one of which should preferably be civil or building structures with adequate experience in modern construction practices.
- Excellent working knowledge of current and future technologies, including renewable energysolutions.
- Strong technical and practical skills.
- Strong problem-solving and project management skills.
- Knowledge of basic accounting and finance principles.
- Strong critical / analytical thinking and decision - making skills.
- Excellent leadership and people management skills, with Gender, Diversity, andInclusion understanding and strong cultural awareness.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Fluency in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills; working knowledge of French would be an advantage
