Duties

  • The incumbent reports directly to the Air conditioning Maintenance Foreman.
  • The position holder is employed as a Trades Helper to assist the technicians of the skilled trades in the performance of routine and preventive maintenance, and new installations and demolition work.
  • The Air conditioning Maintenance Foreman will assign the incumbent to any of the skilled trade shops on a daily basis to assist the skilled technicians with maintenance and repair work throughout the New Embassy Compound/New Consulate Compound (NEC/NCC) office buildings, grounds and residential owned/leased properties.
  • In addition to assisting the skilled trade technicians, the incumbent may be assigned tasks include material handling, painting, custodial type work, common laborer work, and grounds maintenance and gardening work.

Qualifications and Evaluations
Education Requirements:

  • Completion of high school is required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of maintenance or construction semi-skilled work experience in skilled trades such as masonry, mechanical (HVAC and Plumbing), electrical, carpentry, with significant focus on building systems is required.

Job Knowledge:

  • Must have a basic technical understanding of major building mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Must be familiar with construction techniques and workplace safety, personal protective equipment (PPE) – how and when to use it.

Evaluations:

Language:

Duties

  • Working in the Facility Management section of the Embassy the Carpentry Maintenance Worker carries out scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance and repair work on finish and interior assemblies, furnishings and fixtures in all mission buildings and facilities including residential owned and leased properties.
  • Job holder would repair, adjust and install doors, windows, hardware, wall, ceiling and floor coverings, sunshades and blinds; fixed furnishings; painting of various surfaces; and replacement specified glazing products with required installation materials.

Qualifications and Evaluations
Education Requirements:

  • Completion of Secondary School is required and completion of vocational training from an accredited institute recognized as producing journeyman level technicians with a concentration in carpentry is required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the repair and maintenance of building assemblies, furnishings and fixture operations is required.

Job Knowledge - Competence in the following is required:

  • Maintenance and repair of various building finishes and assembles, components, fixtures and furnishings utilizing carpentry and general building construction skill.
  • Ability to set up and operate a wide variety of wood working and metal machines, various types of power and hand held tools that meet accepted trade practices and safety procedures.
  • Ability to utilize various types of electronic measuring devices and recording instruments.

Duties

  • The incumbent assists the Community Liaison Office in developing and maintaining key contacts and managing information that benefits the morale and welfare of the entire mission including TDYers, Long-Term Contractors and LES.
