1.) Storage Specialist
The University of Ghana Computing Systems provides the IT services that the University of Ghana requires to fulfil its mission to be a world-class centre for research and teaching. UGCS provides innovative services and projects to support learning, teaching and research in response to the changing demands and trends in the IT ecosystem.
In order to more effectively carry out this mandate, applications are invited to fill the following Senior Member positions:
JOB TITLE: Storage Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Infrastructure and Security Services Division

JOB SUMMARY
• The role of a Storage Specialist has become critical in the changing dynamics at UG’s Data centre as we migrate from the traditional data centre to Hyperconverged Infrastructure with multiple Virtual Machines to manage working on near-line and flash storage for maximum availability and reliability.
• The synergy required to understand and operate the various new technology platforms and integrate same to achieve business continuity and stability has brought to the fore, the need for a versatile personality with skills required to manage and maintain data storage within centres across the business sites into a software defined data centre with converged and hyperconverged infrastructure to operate

Key responsibilities:
• Performs upgrades, assists, and works with the Datacentre specialist to restore issues, maintains data centre documentation, tracks physical data centre inventories, and maintains disaster recovery processes for future references. Performs installation, configuration, setup, testing and operational support for enterprise Storage and Backup solutions.
• Collaborates with team members and leadership to develop road maps and strategies for the Storage and Backup Infrastructure
• Performs patch and firmware management
• Performs Storage life-cycle management
• Performs business continuity and disaster recovery testing
Essential Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications:
• Working experience designing, integrating, monitoring, and managing end-to-end Storage and Backup infrastructure
• Experience with working in large complex computing and storage organization - OS, VMware, SAN/Storage and Backup/Recovery Administration.
• Performs installation, configuration, setup, testing and operational support for enterprise Storage and Backup solutions.
• Collaborate with team members and leadership to develop road maps and strategies for the Storage and Backup Infrastructure.
• Working experience with HPE storage and 3PAR, DELL/EMC, Data Domain File shares.
• Experience in setting up File Shares and distributed File system shares.
• Working experience troubleshooting storage issues.
• Working experience configuring replication devices and performing replication tests.
• Working experience monitoring storage performance.
• Working experience with UNIX and Windows Engineering and administration to support all Windows and UNIX based server hardware and Operating Systems.
• VEEM deployment and support for real time backup
• Proficiency in datacentre migrations and consolidations including capacity planning, virtualization, and best practices.
• Working experience with Automation tools like Ansible, Chef and Puppet.
• Knowledge with Cloud Technologies preferred - Azure and GCP.
• Participate in 24X7 on-call support to provide advance support to critical issues affecting business continuity.
• Working experience with UNIX Shell, Python and/or PowerShell scripting.
• Manages third party suppliers in an infrastructure project.
• Essential Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications - Working experience with power/electrical.
• Working experience with wiring/cabling.
• Working experience with network Data Centre operation.

Qualification Required & Experience
• Applicants must have a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Information Systems or related discipline. Having the following certifications would be an added advantage:
• Certified Information System Auditor
• Certificate in HPE Storage (3PAR) systems management.
• Certificate in HPE blade server systems management.
• Certificate in Opensource Datacentre virtualization.
• VMware Certification
• Sophos Unified Threat Management System Professional (Sophos UTM)
• Applicants should have at least 7 years of experience in Systems Administration Working experience progressively in complex compute and storage organization - OS, VMware, SAN/Storage and Backup/Recovery Administration.

2.) Data Centre Specialist
JOB DESCRIPTION AND SPECIFICATIONS
JOB TITLE: Data Centre Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Infrastructure and Security Services Division
REPORTS TO: Head of System Administration
JOB SUMMARY
• The role of a Data Center Specialist is to monitor, identify, and resolve issues concerning the data centre, server equipment, VMs setup and backup equipment; performs upgrades, assists with data storage, and restore issues working with the storage Specialist, maintains data centre documentations, tracks physical data centre inventories, and maintains disaster recover processes for future references.
• We currently have a mix of HCI and traditional storage solutions infrastructure within our NOC which are required to be managed seamlessly so that all major applications, storage, and computing platform are up and running and when issues arise could be restored and many more.
Key responsibilities include:
• Monitoring, identifying, and resolving issues concerning the data centre, server equipment, VMs setup and backup equipment.
• Performing upgrades, assisting and working with the data storage specialist, restoring issues, maintaining data centre documentation, tracking physical data centre inventories, and maintaining disaster recovery processes for future reference.
• Performing user provisioning activities for all users on campus and working to ensure users are in various systems, including but not limited to Active Directory (AD), e-mail, and telecommunications platform systems support.
• Managing, diagnosing, resolving or escalating for additional support, issues at the Data Centre Network/Telecommunications issues related to PCs/Servers and Telephones.
• Managing support tickets for the Systems and Network team, ensuring completion and resolution of issues by various team members.
• Ensuring backup of servers and relevant databases as well as remote backup storage solutions and using enterprise-based backup solutions like Veeam.
• Conducting daily server platform checks for the server farm and HPC solutions, observing warning lights and initiating replacements as much as necessary.
• De-provisioning and replacing malfunctioning hardware, wiping data for security.
• Restarting failing Enterprise Resource & Planning (ERP) software, as indicated by the user calls.
• Maintaining physical inventory control of IT hardware and supplies for the Systems and Data center, Network and Telecommunications, as well as the User Services teams.
• Assisting to seamlessly integrate the mix of Converged Infrastructure, hyper-converged infrastructure and traditional Data Centre solutions within the Network Operating Centre requiring to be managed seamlessly so that all major applications, storage, and computing platforms run smoothly and are easily restored when they go down.

3.) IT and Network Security Specialist
JOB TITLE: IT and Network Security Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Infrastructure and Security Services
REPORTS TO: Deputy Chief Information Technology Officer Infrastructure and Security Support
JOB SUMMARY
• The role of the IT and Network Security analyst/specialist is to manage the University’s firewall deployment and support as well as help maintain critical network configuration updates that have wider impact.
• The Network Security Specialist/Analyst will manage and deploy Firewall rules, configure, and maintains IPS/IDS, Anti-Malware, conduct regular penetration tests when required and ACLs reviews when they need to be applied for maximum internal and external network and application protection.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES
• Provides leadership and coordinates changes in configuration after approval, updates, upgrades, patches etc. regarding infrastructure and applications and evaluates risks before implementation with application owners involved.
• Leads in vulnerability scanning and threat monitoring (internal & external) across the University community
• Performs bi-annual audits and security assessments to ensure benchmarks and other standards are adhered to.
• Monitors and reviews logs to identify trends on the network and proactively manage threats with other team leads to ensure stability.
• Leads in creating and maintaining an asset register and works with security management to indicate appropriate risks level for each asset
• Leads in infrastructure hardening to prevent unused services from broadcasting
• Assists in classifying information assets and tagging them in conformity as per the approved standard
• Works with other officers in incident management efforts across the University and serves as the first point of call for escalated matters on technical security issues
• Works with security management to ensure that ALL information assets are protected by the appropriate CIA
• Works with other units to ensure security suites and products for end users are appropriately configured & updated
• Supports disaster recovery efforts with the wider UGCS team
• Periodically provides reports on the state of infrastructure and services with regards to security
• Leads in collecting network performance data, monitoring network security, troubleshooting issues, anticipating problems, and performing routine fixes working with other units to ensure stability and security.
• Leads the configuration and maintenance of regular Access Control Lists (ACLs) on UG’s edge router(s) and other relevant switches and maintains IPS/IDS, firewall rules, etc. for maximum internal and external network and application protection.
• Manages network access control (NAC) systems, firewalls, routers, incident response techniques, intrusion prevention systems, information security methodologies, authentication protocols and different attack types.

Qualification Required & Experience
• A master’s degree in Ethical Hacking and Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Management Information Systems or related discipline. Having any of the professional certifications (Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MSCE), Cisco Certified Network Engineer (CCNE), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Security Professional (CCSP) or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) would be an added advantage.
• Possession of the Professional certification in CCNP (which should be current) is mandatory.
Knowledge & Experience
• A minimum of seven (7) years progressively responsible working experience in all areas of local and wide area network management and administration including system configuration, setup, troubleshooting, planning, designing, implementation, and user support, of which three (3) years should be in a supervisory capacity.
• In addition, applicants are required to have fibre Optic Certification as well as other Security Certifications and hands on experience with working IGPs and EGPs (OSFPs, BGP)

4.) Head, Academic Computing (HAC)

UNIT: Academic Computing
REPORTS TO: Deputy Chief Information Technology Officer, Information Technology (IT) SERVICES
JOB SUMMARY
• The Head, Academic Computing, (HAC) reports to the Deputy CITO (IT Services) and is responsible for identifying and implementing programmes that promote the effective use of technology in supporting teaching, learning and research.
The HAC leads the following sub- units:
• E – Learning
• Research and Support
• Library systems
Key Responsibilities include:
• Providing leadership for the unit to optimize performance, quality, efficiency, and collaborate with administrative and academic partners across the University’s campuses.
• Designing, adapting, promoting, and implementing industry best practices for e- learning research support and library systems.
• Promoting the use and support of innovative and effective uses of educational technology.
• Collaborating with library and academic units across all UG campuses in areas of educational technology initiatives and support activities.
• Monitoring academic technology developments and trends and advise management accordingly.
• Assessing and evaluating the outcomes and impact of academic technology initiatives to steer on-going improvements and lead in the development and planning of new initiatives.
• Leading task forces and committees dealing with the IT needs of the University as they relate to academic functions.
Qualification Required & Experience
QUALIFICATION AND ATTRIBUTES
• A Postgraduate Degree in Computer Science, Information Studies, / Science, Educational Technology, Information Systems or a related field.
• 5- 6 years’ experience working in or leading an academic technology support organization and managing complex information technology systems and processes
• Ability to communicate concepts and processes clearly and effectively in oral and written form.
• Upholding high ethical and moral standards.
• Ability to coordinate and work with teams and stakeholders.
• Experience in managing external vendor relationships.
• A broad knowledge of trends and future directions of IT and its application in higher education.

5.) Telecom Engineer

JOB SUMMARY
• The Telecom Engineer (TE) reports to the Deputy CITO (Infrastructure) and is responsible for identifying the requirements of the UGCS telecom networks. Duties involve working with telecommunication equipment, hardware and services. The TE is expected to solve telecom related problems by assessing situations and applying relevant solutions. The Telecom Engineer will also design and create telecommunications systems.

Key Responsibilities:
• Engineer telecom related solutions for various projects and operational needs in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
• Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
• Recommend innovative solutions for related telecom services.
• Perform periodic monitoring to ensure the integrity and availability of all communication links and systems.
• Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
• Troubleshoot equipment and technical problems through routine inspections. Upgrade and configure telecom systems.

• Relevant advanced professional level qualification or industry skill-based certification.
• 5 – 6 years’ experience in various areas of telecom engineering including equipment and service configuration, setup, troubleshooting, planning, designing, implementation, and user support; including Fiber Optics, ISDN, analog, TI, T2, SONET, ATM and IP PABX deployment.
• Ability to communicate concepts and processes clearly and effectively in oral and written form.
• Ability to plan, design and maintain telecommunication networks.
• Upholding high ethical and moral standards.
• Ability to coordinate and work with teams.
• Appreciation of IP Protocols and internet working of IP and Data Networks is an advantage.
