1.) Regional Senior Communication Manager SSA

Role Context

  • This role is a new role as part of Marketing and Communications Transformation programme. In line with the Global Recruitment policy, standard application and recruitment decisions will apply for this role




Role Purpose

  • To manage the development and implementation of communications strategies for the region/cluster/country including internal and change communications, external communications planning and delivery (media, PR, events) and stakeholder communications across all Strategic Business Units (SBUs).

Main Accountabilities

  • The post-holder supports the development and implementation of the communications strategy and plan, ensuring alignment to global communications strategy and plan.
  • Manages the delivery of internal and external communications campaigns, advice and activities, ensuring that messages are consistent and support regional and global communications strategies as part of overall Marketing strategy and plans.
  • Provides strategic oversight in communicating the British Council’s profile to internal and external stakeholders working closely with Country Directors.
  • Ensures that communications messages are consistent, are aligned to global and regional communications strategy and support the British Council brand.
  • Applies advanced communications expertise to provide advice to key stakeholders and develop and deliver agreed programmes of work.
  • Applies analytical approaches to identify and assess current state of communications, define opportunities for improvement, develop and implement agreed projects and initiatives, ensuring consistency with regional communications strategies, plans and approaches and global strategy where appropriate.
  • Develops appropriate communications initiatives and interventions to support business needs, aligned to global and regional communications strategies, plans and approaches.
  • Ensures consistent application of agreed global communications and brand standards, templates and processes.
  • Review impact and effectiveness of communications projects and initiatives and identifies opportunities for improvement.
  • Provides expert advice, support and challenge on communications to internal customers and other stakeholders.
  • Ensures solid and beneficial relationships with marketing and communications professionals globally.
  • Actively participates within the Marketing Community of Practice and communications networks
  • Plans and prioritises own work activities to ensure effective delivery of diverse responsibilities and deliverables over a quarterly to annual time horizon.
  • Determines work plans and coordinates input from others (who may be outside the direct management line) to meet specific objectives.

Essential Requirements
The successful candidate will need to possess the following requirements:

  • Relevant Degree e.g. Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or equivalent level of experience.




Essential:

  • Role holder must have existing rights to live and work in the country the role is based.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Experience in a global organisation
  • Project management skills.

Role Specific Knowledge and Experience:

  • Significant experience in managing communications within a large and complex organisation or agency
  • Demonstrable experience in providing expert advice and guidance on internal and external communications
  • Experience in managing and mitigating communications risks and issues
  • Proven record of editorial experience (i.e. proofreading, translation, knowledge of different content types, etc.)
  • Demonstrable creative approach to developing, implementing and evaluating communication activities
  • Practical experience of using social media to extend reach of an organisation including through campaigns.

2.) Regional Senior Exams Marketing Manager, East and Southern Cluster, SSA

Role Purpose

  • To lead the development and execution of the cluster/country marketing strategy and plans, ensuring alignment to the regional and global marketing strategy and brand, and to work in partnership with SBUs to ensure that country marketing activities enable required business targets.
  • This role will be accountable for the planning, management, execution and evaluation of plans for the cluster, overseen by the Regional Head of Marketing, Exams.




Main Accountabilities

  • The post-holder will lead the development and execution of Exams marketing strategy and plan in the cluster/country ensuring alignment to the regional and global marketing strategy.
  • You will lead the planning & execution of products go-to market plans and annual plans for Exams in the cluster/country, agreeing the programmes, their delivery mechanisms, budgets and resources with regional marketing and Exams leads.
  • Lead the development and execution of Exams campaign strategies to support a variety of routes to market and maximise impact and share of voice while making sure they achieve the regional marketing strategy objectives.
  • You will also ensure that clear and consistent marketing processes are deployed across the cluster/country aligned to agreed global marketing processes.
  • Applies advanced marketing expertise to develop and enhance marketing strategies, plans and approaches for the cluster/country.
  • Applies core technical and professional knowledge to identify and assess current state of marketing, define opportunities for improvement and design and develop new or improved practice to drive business growth and reduce duplication of activities and expenditure.
  • Builds an in-depth understanding of the cluster operational context and the opportunities and challenges for marketing.
  • Identifies and implements new marketing approaches and/or techniques which enhance efficiency and wider business impact, ensuring alignment across the cluster/country and to the regional marketing strategy.
  • Makes sure that all plans are insights and evidence led and use the existing tools to evaluate their performance, impact and return on investment (ROI).
  • Participates as part of the regional marketing team to support implementation and review new processes and operating model.
  • Provides proactive professional advice and support to internal customers to ensure local and Exams specific requirements are high quality, effective and compliant with marketing policy, process and governance.
  • Ensures the development of high quality and effective marketing plans and solutions using and sharing marketing expertise.
  • Using agreed corporate systems and processes, plans and manages the budget for the cluster/country with regards to marketing plans and programmes.
  • Conducts quarterly and year-end reporting on progress against plan and deliverables, budget, and management of issues and risks.
  • Proactively participates in the Marketing Community of Practice developing good working relationships with marketing colleagues across the organisation and the business.
  • Develops peer/personal networks within and outside Marketing to enhance own knowledge and expertise.
  • Plans and prioritises work activities to ensure effective delivery of marketing activities over a quarterly to annual time horizon.




Role Specific Knowledge and Experience:

  • Significant experience in a marketing position at a national level within a large and complex organisation
  • Demonstrable experience of developing marketing strategies and plans
  • Demonstrable experience in managing supplier relationships
  • Creates integrated marketing communications plans using both physical and digital tools
  •  Reviews, establishes and develops channel/partnership marketing strategies to meet customer needs and achieve business goals

Essential Requirements
The successful candidate will need to possess the following requirements:

  • Degree or professional qualification in Marketing or Business.

Essential:

  • Role holder must have existing rights to live and work in the country the role is based.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Relevant professional accreditations e.g. CIM, Melcrum, GCN, CIPR, WOMMA etc.
  • Experience in a global organisation
  • Evidence of successful line management of a small team remotely
  • Experience in Exams market.

3.) Director, Programmes

 

Location: Lagos
Contract Type: Locally engaged
Contract Duration: 3-year Fixed Term Contract
Pay band: SMP

Role Purpose

  • The Director Programmes is responsible for the oversight and management of a portfolio of English, Education, Arts and Culture programmes in Nigeria.
  • The primary focus of this role is to provide strategic leadership to the existing portfolio and to generate new and continued business across all three sectors.
  • The Director will accomplish this through demonstrating sector understanding, business development capabilities and programme delivery strengths.
  • The Director has overall responsibility for the quality assurance of implementation and capture of new business and will draw on country and regional staff and external technical resources to do this.
  • As a member of the Nigeria Senior Leadership Team (SLT), this post will also actively contribute to the development and delivery of the Country Strategy and Plan for Nigeria, ensuring they meet the required cultural relations, business and operational objectives and are appropriately aligned to wider regional, portfolio and corporate strategies.
  • The role will support the wider British Council offer across Nigeria through contribution to the operation’s objectives and raising the profile, reach and engagement with core audiences in Nigeria and the UK.

Main Accountabilities for Director Programmes

  • Strategy & Planning: Develop, articulate and lead the strategy for cultural engagement work in Nigeria, ensuring a coherent theory of change and vision straddling the varied programmes.  This role will also be part of the Nigeria Senior Leadership Team and contribute to country-wide strategic initiatives.
  • Business Development: positioning, pursuit and partnership development (liaison with partners including EU, FCDO, GIZ, relevant government ministries and counterparts, CSOs and identification of new partnerships with donors, Trusts, Foundations and Philanthropists). Leading / supporting (as appropriate) the acquisition of specific opportunities.
  • Programme Management – overall portfolio leadership and accountability, ensuring that programmes meet agreed British Council and client / partner standards and targets.  May be required to act as SRO (Senior Responsible Officer) on a number of agreed programmes and strategic oversight of all.
  • Monitoring and evaluation / Impact – ensure that the Nigeria programmes’ portfolio reports impact against client and British Council targets and produces compelling programme impact stories.




Role Specific Knowledge and Experience
The main essential knowledge and experience points that we are looking for you to evidence are:

  • Graduate Degree in relevant field
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in international development including with at least two major partners (e.g. EU, FCDO, World Bank, GIZ)
  • Written, spoken and aural English at graduate level
  • Proven portfolio / large scale programme management experience, including the leadership of large teams
  • Knowledge and expertise in at least one relevant sector (English, Education, Arts &Culture).

Role Specific Skills:
Required candidate will need to possess:

  • Business Development skills - Ability to identify opportunities, write bids and speak credibly to donors/clients.
  • Risk Management experience in emerging economy/ developing country or other challenging environment
  • Inter-cultural fluency – leading a highly diverse team and navigating a complex cultural environment
  • Stakeholder management (internal and external)
  • Public speaking ability.




Desirable Experience:

  • Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) or equivalent programme management qualification
  • Experience working in fragile states.
