1.) Startup Segment Leader, Sub Saharan Africa, AWS Startups

Job Summary

  • As AWS continues to rapidly grow, we seek a leader to own and scale out the startup customer segment in Sub Saharan Africa (SSA). The startup segment in Sub-Sharan Africa is experiencing non-linear growth. In this role, you will continue to accelerate this direction, building strategy through execution and inspirational leadership.
  • You will manage a team of Account Managers and guide the wider cross-functional team. You will be adept at delivering growth in early stage companies who are making their initial IT decisions.
  • You and your team will establish and maintain relationships within key customers, driving innovation and capabilities for startups across infrastructure and business application landscapes.
  • You will build and develop a team who will execute on your strategy throughout Africa. You will develop talent in the Amazon mold who will continue to raise the bar.
  • In this role, you will lead a team across Africa who influences customers to leverage AWS to power their business and technology outcomes.
  • This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a fast growing and entrepreneurial organization, bringing innovation and growing the adoption of cloud for some of the most innovative and entrepreneurial companies in the world. This role will require you to understand the unique needs of early stage entrepreneurs, startup founders and developers.
  • You will be responsible for developing opportunity pipelines, evangelizing cloud computing, and driving revenue and user adoption for this important group of customers. You will be expected to build and execute scalable sales motions to acquire new customers.
  • The position requires to move to Kenya in the future.




Roles & Responsibilities

  • Drive revenue and market share of startups in Africa.
  • Meet or exceed quarterly revenue targets.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive regional plan.
  • Accelerate customer adoption.
  • Maintain a robust sales pipeline.
  • Manage contract negotiations.
  • Develop long-term strategic relationships with key accounts.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Expect moderate travel

Basic Qualifications

  • BA / BS degree required.
  • 10+ years of technology related sales.
  • 5+ years of sales management experience.
  • Proven track record building successful teams.
  • Deep insights into the startup ecosystem in Africa, main stakeholders and trends
  • A long-term mindset that understands the importance of investing in and adding value to startups early in their lifecycle to earn their trust and loyalty before they become big companies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or Master's Degree.
  • Fluent in French.
  • Previous cloud expertise at a technology company.
  • Proven track record of building successful teams.
  • A technical background in engineering or computer science.
  • History of working with, selling to tech startups.

2.) Enterprise Account Manager

  • Significant account management business development experience in the IT industry.

  • Direct field experience in working with large customer accounts.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.

  • The Developer Advocate for Amazon Web Services will join a creative, experienced and energetic organization that is responsible for helping to drive the development and adoption of AWS services.
  • In this role, you’ll combine your technical skills, passion and enthusiasm with your unmatched creativity to generate grass-roots attention and support for AWS among key industry innovators and technologists in Nigeria and West Africa, as well as globally.
  • Ideally, you’re someone who comes from a software and/or infrastructure background, but has an unmet need to be on stage guiding the broader industry towards a technology you firmly believe in.
  • You have immediate credibility with Startups, Developers, Architects, IT Managers and/or CIOs. You love to share your passion with others and exhibit good judgment in selecting strategic opportunities to do so.
  • You don’t just want to be part of an industry movement, you want to be out front leading it.

Key Capabilities

  • As a Builder, you will dive deep to deliver audience-focused technical presentations, and to curate and build actionable technical content. You'll keep your technical skills updated constantly, always maintaining a baseline understanding of the latest core AWS services, and then adding breadth and depth as required by their specialty or audience needs.
  • As a Strategist, you'll keep the "big picture" in mind and always look for opportunities to maximize customer value, constantly driving efficiencies on processes and mechanisms.
  • As a Teacher, you'll provide technical guidance for Builders to be successful with the cloud, simplifying the complex and tailoring your message to the needs of the audience.
  • As an Ambassador, you'll build long-term relationships with Builders and their communities, feeding back insights to help shape AWS go-to-market strategy, programs and products. You'll also identify and develop external AWS advocates, helping to scale our programs.
  • As an Influencer, you'll use your unique personality and authentic content to help attract Builders to AWS and keep them engaged and inspired to Build.




Key Job Responsibilities

  • Gaining industry recognition and credibility as a regular attendee and speaker at AWS and third party technology conferences, shows and press events.
  • Curating, developing and delivering compelling presentations, sample solutions, and discussions to help drive awareness and adoption of AWS services.
  • Collaborating with internal teams to define program initiatives for technical audiences, market positioning, gathering customer feedback, and nurturing and growing technical communities.
  • Creating and maintaining relevant content (demos, videos, blogs, screencasts, books, and other mediums), covering AWS services along with emerging technologies and industry developments.
  • Maintaining a strong and credible presence in social media channels relevant to technical audiences.
  • Working with your worldwide counterparts to share best practices and help build a best-in-the-industry developer relations organization.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on technical experience with cloud computing infrastructure, application development platforms and popular programming languages, operations and/or security
  • 2+ years in a customer facing role or a role which involved public speaking
  • Superior oral and written communication skills in English
  • Outstanding public speaking, content creation, and presentation skills (in person and online), and experience working with technical communities.
  • Willingness to travel and ability to work autonomously
  • Able to work in a diverse team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Significant experience in IT Infrastructure and/or software development, with special emphasis in areas of Compute, Storage, Databases, Networking, Application Services, Machine Learning, Big Data and/or distributed computing
  • Practical experience in cloud computing, architecture, systems or application design, development or operations. Existing knowledge of the AWS platform a bonus.
  • Working knowledge and experience with social/online marketing coupled with prior experience in product definition, bring-to-market strategies and/or setting an industry standard.
  • A history of successful speaking engagements, online content creation, industry influence, and/or recognition in technology publications is preferred.
  • Success in nurturing, engaging with, and growing large technical communities
  • While not a requirement, oral and written communication skills in French are an added value.
