1.) Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Officer
Ref: IITA-HR-NRS2021-0020
Location: Ibadan, Oyo
Recruitment Type: National (1-year renewable contract)
Duties
Successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:
- Design the project’s M&E framework/plan, based on current project information and adding Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) when and if necessary, to track progress and achievements in line with the IFAD guidelines and from a gender lens.
- Develop the overall M&E framework for the project, including but not limited to logic model (Theory of Change, Result-based logical framework), Baseline, Performance Indicators Tracking Table, Project Performance Monitoring Plan, Communication plan, Feedback Response Mechanism, Summary of Evaluation Table.
- Develop methods and tools for the data collection including real-time data collection using electronic devices where possible, and remotely support the rollout of the plan.
- Contribute to the development of project work plan and update in accordance with project activities and timeframes.
- Coordinate the compilation of information for the preparation of narrative progress reports, implementation reports, and other substantive reports as required.
- Supervise and monitor developed enterprises- by providing regular analysis of the agribusinesses alongside the hub managers.
- Develop, conduct baseline, and generate data for each of the project components and for all the indicators, collect data on a regular basis and maintain the M&E database.
- Manage databases and use SPSS / STATA for analysis of information to assess the progress of a project.
- Organize and participate in M&E-related events arising during the project and provide advice to the coordinator on improving project performance using M&E findings.
- Generate program information and dashboards for tracking and depicting progress on activities and strategy implementation against targets and key milestones.
- Perform any other job-related task as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
- B.Sc / HND in Agricultural Economics, Social Sciences or related field with minimum of five (5) years’ experience performing similar role in a well-structured environment or donor funded organization.

Competencies:
The ideal candidate must:
- Be a proficient user of computer software packages related to database management and data analysis.
- Have ability to use basic packages such as Excel, PPT and other statistical packages.
- Have strong experience working with theory of change, logical framework design, performance indicator selection and results-based planning approaches.
- Have strong experience developing web-based M&E systems.
- Have experience working with scientists and conducting household surveys and impact evaluation studies
- Have strong experience using ONA / ODK for data collection and, quantitative / qualitative analytical techniques.
- Have strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Have strong coordination, organizational and strong analytical skills.
- Have strong experience in writing reports and intercultural communication skills.
- Ability to use basic packages such as Excel, PPT and other statistical packages.

2.) Senior Agronomist

Location: Yola, Adamawa
Recruitment Type: National (1-year renewable contract)
Duties
Successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:
- Facilitate partnerships with dissemination (extension) and market partners. Provide strategic support in a wide variety of areas including value chain development and upgrading strategies, improving access to agricultural inputs, access to agricultural extension, and marketing;
- Oversee and co-ordinate all agronomical and technical field activities carried out by stakeholders (small holder farmers, community-based seed producers, partner seed companies etc.) and provide necessary agronomical technical backstopping to them in the two target states (Adamawa and Borno);
- Provide leadership in designing, planning and implementation of demonstrations of soil, crop and livestock management technologies in farming communities;
- Provide necessary inputs into the Activity’s annual workplan (especially on Component 1) and prepare quarterly/annual workplan performance report;
- Strengthen seed production systems for cereal and legume crops in Northeast Nigeria. Help to establish and strengthen community-based seed multiplication and dissemination schemes of improved crop varieties;
- Organise and lead capacity building activities for different stakeholders including extension agents, input dealers andother service providers;
- Lead in the recommendations and dissemination of improved crop-based production systems in Adamawa and Borno states;
- Compile, collate and prepare technical reports for component 1 of the Activity;
- Perform any other job-related task as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications
- Master’s in Agronomy, Crop Science or related field;
- With a minimum of fifteen (15) years experience in agricultural extension and new technology delivery functionsin a well-structured environment or donor funded organization.

3.) Communication and Knowledge Manager

Duties
Successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:
- Develop, coordinate, and implement a detailed communication and knowledge exchange plan for the Activity in close collaboration with Activity experts, partners and the Chief of Party;
- Establish and maintain approaches to ensure the sustainable, timely, transparent and interconnected two-way exchange of knowledge across the Activity;
- Manage and ensure effective stakeholder relationships and knowledge exchange approaches by engaging in dialog and using feedback mechanisms with Activity partners, ADPs and beneficiaries;
- Manage Activity events (including press conferences, promotional events and exhibitions) and produce accurate timely report, events and success stories, newsletters/bulletin;
- Set up, design and coordinate an online media platform on Activity results in close collaboration with a social media;
- Support web-based tools and social media for widespread communication of knowledge generated;
- Produce efficient communication materials (print and audio including educational video documentation) adapted to the needs of farmers for communication of key Activity outputs and learnings;
- Advise on and produce training and educational materials for the manufacture and use of the best-practice production technologies, seed systems approaches, business cluster formation, and integrated value chain development for extension services and rural populations;
- Manage in close collaboration with the Chief of Party and the donor the PR aspect of a possible crisis situation and advising on possible crisis communicationstrategies;
- Participate and contribute to the reporting, evaluation and planning processes and elaboration of Activity.
- Work with other staff of the Activity to ensure that the objectives of the Activity are achieved;
- Perform any other job-related task asmay be assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications
- Master’s in Mass Communication, Journalism, English Language, Linguistics, Public Relations or related field;
- With a minimum of seven (7) years experienceperforming similar role in a well-structured environment or donor funded organization.
Competencies
The ideal candidate must:
- Be proficient in the use of computers (with good grasp and knowledge of spreadsheets, word processing, power point presentation and other MS office applications), database management software, internet-based tools and other electronic communication tools.
- Have a good understanding and knowledge of online social media tools (such as Web 2.0 platforms, blog sites etc.) and writing for the Web.
- Be Proficientin English language with excellent oral, writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- Have excellent interpersonal skills, be a team worker and facilitator, communication and networking skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented multicultural environment.
- Demonstrateability to plan and co-ordinate, and monitor own work plans, prioritize and organize workloads; take initiatives and work under pressure.
- Have an excellent understanding of agriculture, poverty, youth empowerment, gender and sustainability issues in rural development of Nigeria, especially in the Northeast region.|
- Have ability to integrate in an existing complex programme set-up.
- Have ability to deliver accurate and timely reports, events and success stories and newsletters/bulletins.
- Be able to work with minimum supervision and with tight deadlines.
- Ability to communicate in one or more of northern Nigeria’s major languages is an advantage.

4.) Head, Genetic Resources Centre
Project ID No: DDG-R4D/H/GRC/06/21
Duty Station: Ibadan, IITA Headquarters, Oyo
Position Responsibilities
- Provide essential oversight, leadership and management of genetic resources conservation and research, at the Genetic Resources Centre, Ibadan, in the context of One CGIAR.
- Secure maintenance and preservation of the international collections maintained at IITA and update standard international operational procedures as appropriate.
- Maintain a strong research program on secure conservation methods for clonally propagated crops.
- Develop a strong research program on germplasm characterization, combining agro-morphological and molecular data with the objective of a) evaluating the diversity of the collections and b) developing decision support tools for optimization of germplasm management.
- Develop germplasm evaluation programs in collaboration with respective breeding programs.
- Work closely with the Germplasm Health Unit on germplasm indexing and sanitation.
- Supervise all germplasm exchanges and ensure harmony with the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture.
- Contribute to capacity building in the conservation and use of plant genetic resources worldwide.
- Liaise with Global Crop Diversity Trust and other work within the Genetic Innovation Science Area of One CGIAR particularly in terms of use of germplasm in breeding programme and market intelligence.
- Lead a programme of work on enhancing germplasm use both directly and through breeding with a focus on climate change and nutrition.
- Establish or strengthen collaboration with national partners and Advanced Research Institutes.
- Communicate research results through peer-reviewed high-impact journals and other media.
- Participate in mobilization of resources to support research activities.
- Collaborate with breeding programs to enhance germplasm use.
- Take part in the development of global conservation strategies.
- Perform any other job-related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Education Qualifications
- The candidate should possess a Ph.D.in Plant Breeding, Genetics, Conservation Biology or related fields from a highly recognized university.
Core Competencies:
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in genetic resource conservation and use of seed and clonally propagated collections.
- Familiarity with in situconservation.
- Experience in management of Genebank operations with multiple species.
- Publication in high ranking scientific journals on ex situconservation of plant genetic resources, genetic resource diversity assessment or evaluation, or conservation of clonally propagated species.
- Experience with database management and application of genomic tools in germplasm management.
- Ability to create strong and sustainable links with diverse partners.
- Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in a cross-cultural environment.
- Excellent leadership,interpersonal, and team building skills.
- Knowledge of sub-Saharan Africa and good contacts with NARS scientists in the region is an added advantage.
- Proficiency with written and spoken English; knowledge of French is an asset.
