1.) Occupational Hygiene Technician

 

Position: Occupational Hygiene Technician
Grade: Stratum I
Department: HSE
Number of Position(s): One (1)

Role Purpose

• To anticipate, identify, measure, and monitor workplace health hazards, and ensure that controls are continuously monitored for effectiveness. Role holder will support the occupational hygiene unit in the continuous health risks assessments and controls on the mine.

Role Accountabilities

• Conduct sampling/monitoring of air borne hazards such as dust, welding fumes, diesel particulate matter, air borne lead
• Measure and continuously monitor noise exposure levels (personal noise monitoring)
• Measure and continuously monitor whole body vibration and radiation exposure levels of employees
• Conduct regular nocturnal light measurements at the workplace
• Participate and assist in risk assessment exercise and contribute to the developments and implementation of control measures
• Conduct critical control verification - ensure that controls are in place and functional to mitigate the risk of harm
• Conduct compliance studies on the use of noise and respiratory protection devises at the workplace
• Maintenance/housekeeping of the dust laboratory/weighing facility (cleaning, charging equipment) and ensure that all occupational hygiene equipment are well maintained
• Assist in preparing monthly and quarterly occupational health & hygiene reports
• Assist in educating workers on health effect of stressors on the mine (physical, chemical, biological, ergonomics etc.) on the mine and existing controls including the use of PPE Conduct health and hygiene inspections
• Assist in internal and external audits Participate in random alcohol and drug testing activities in the mine
• Assist with the implementation of indoor residual spraying, larviciding and disinfection programs sponsored by the mine
• Conduct kitchen inspections and ensure that food samples are collected for analysis with FDA quarterly

Qualification Required & Experience

Person Specifications

• BSc. Environmental and Safety Engineering, Chemistry or Health Sciences related field from a recognized institution
• Professional competency certification in Occupational Hygiene is an advantage
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the field of Occupational Health & Safety or occupational Hygiene or its equivalent.
• Must be familiar with the use of occupational hygiene equipment
• Knowledge in MS Office applications.
• Budget planning and development skills
• Report writing – be familiar with occupational hygiene report writing
• Effective interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
• Ability to work extra hours and respond to tight deadlines
• Knowledge in MS Office applications.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team-oriented setting
• Must possess very strong human relations skills and ability to interact with people of diverse culture and value
• Medical fitness for the position and environment
• Possess a valid driver’s license and proficiency in driving light vehicle

2.) Engineering Supervisor – Dewatering

 

ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

The Engineering Supervisor - Dewatering is accountable for the monitoring and control of maintenance and operations of the Underground Dewatering pumps after refurbishment in the transition to operations, through the application of operational policies, standards, processes and procedures to maximise plant availability in a sustainable cost-effective manner and minimize operational risks in order to meet the business’ strategic objective.

ROLE VACANCIES

• Work according to total quality management principles & ensure zero defect objectives & safety
• Adhere to site’s Environmental Management Plan
• Gather information for the Superintendent – Mine Dewatering for reporting performance
• Conduct periodic audits of all Dewatering equipment/pumps in Underground infrastructure
• Conduct reviews of the Dewatering refurbishment, later maintenance, of the Underground infrastructures to identify actions for continuous improvement and that operability to requirements is ensured
• Organise information for the Superintendent – Mine Dewatering to allow development of condition monitoring routes and checks for infrastructure equipment;
• Utilize the SAP asset maintenance management system in maintenance activities.
• Execute regular controls on maintenance and operations work quality, according to standards, timeliness and AGAG compliance.
• Execute refurbishment, later maintenance, work checks on a routine scheduled basis. This include visual checks, vibration data collection, infrared data collection, ultrasonic data collection, motor current and flux data collection, simple NDT data collection;
• Analyse and trend predictive maintenance data (vibration, IR, etc) to determine plant condition and report this condition for action;
• Generate work requests in SAP as required for refurbishment/ maintenance planning and scheduling
• Ensure routine condition monitoring tasks are performed on all the rotating equipment by data collection using advanced portable data collectors and other tools according to the established schedules and also as per the plant requirements.
• Gather information on vibration & other data collected and escalate in order to permit diagnosis / troubleshooting rotating machinery problems.
• Actively participate in maintenance review programmes and Root Cause Failure Analysis process of Dewatering equipment, when required.
• Execute work in a timely manner; coordinate refurbishment/maintenance work and contractors to time plan, escalate real or potential delays
• Log monitored equipment performance on asset health system and take proactive measures to register and escalate symptoms of potential failure.
• Stop equipment from working if there exists a high risk or unsafe to be used

Qualification Required & Experience

• Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Hydraulics Engineering or Maintenance Management, or equivalen

Experience

• An experienced Dewatering Operations Supervisor with over 5 years’ experience in, preferably, Underground operations / maintenance
• Knowledge of SAP PM module

3.) Chief Ventilation Engineer

 

ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

The incumbent will plan/engineer and co-ordinate the ventilation requirements for the mine in line with the established mine plans and Ghana Mining Regulations, ensuring AGAG provides an occupational environment which is conducive to good health, safety and productivity (through anticipation, monitoring, recognition, evaluation and control of factors that may cause adverse or dangerous conditions).

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Develop functional ventilation processes for implementation and progress tracking including the:
• Establishment of suitable systems and procedures to ensure an effective and efficient implementation of the ventilation/occupational hygiene strategies and programs.
• Development of ventilation component of the MTS Management Operating System.
• Establishment of an integrated data capture and reporting system
• Design and model life of mine (LOM) ventilation options in support of LOM mining plan (using Ventsim Visual)
• Manage ventilation projects (including shafts, raise-bore primary fan construction/refurbishment, Return Airway stripping, etc.) to optimize development of the Obuasi Mine envisaged in P300.
• Optimize short term, medium and long terms ventilation plans that ensure delivery of budget requirements and operations strategy
• Develop and submit the annual cost centre budget to achieve the required targets for approved Ventilation Outputs
• Manage the integrated delivery of work by the Ventilation function within approved budget targets and specified timeframes, cost and related KPIs
• Demonstrate Safety Leadership and improve the Culture in ventilation and the MTS department regarding Safety, Health, Environmental and Sustainable Development
• Identify the environmental aspects of all activities/areas of oversight responsibilities and provide appropriate mitigation measures.
• Investigate, respond and take measures to prevent actual / potential environmental incidents in the areas of responsibility.
• Responsible for continuous environmental improvement in the areas of work.
• Provide the systems, resources and expertise to develop the Ventilation team to capably and consistently deliver the annual budget, LoM plan and strategy according to their role and level of authority
• Rigorously drive implementation of projects and strategies and nurture and sustain a culture of Accountability and Continuous Improvement within the Ventilation function
• Develop and maintain constructive relationships with Internal Stakeholders (Exco, Corporate, Group Planning & Technical, sister mines, CARO etc.) and external Stakeholders (Regulatory Agencies and Authorities, Minerals Commission) to establish existing and changing societal and regulatory expectations and requirements

Qualification Required & Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mining/Mechanical Engineering
• Certificate in Mine Environmental Control
• A post graduate certificate in Management/Management practice would be considered a strong asset

Experience

• A minimum of 10 to 15 years of relevant ventilation engineering experience in underground mining environment with some exposure in occupational hygiene
• At least 5 years’ experience in the chief ventilation engineering role
• Ability to analyze and interprete ventilation data and the requisite ventilation methods for different stoping techniques
• Capable of analyzing and interpreting data on environmental stressors
• Capable of developing ventilation design criteria to support safe and optimal mine operations.
• Capable of developing ventilation standard operating procedures
• Capable to carry out aero, thermo & contaminant modelling and interpret results
• A high level of computer literacy with specialized ventilation and mining software such as Ventism, Vuma, Studio 5D/Surpac, Autocad etc.
• A good understanding on blasting time and blasting scheduling

4.) Materials Planner

 

ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

This role is responsible for executing all materials planning routines and activities on a daily, weekly and monthly basis and directly support materials requirement planning and control decisions on the mine. The position will require building strong relations with Operations, Planned Maintenance, Warehousing, Purchasing and Finance as directed by the Materials Planning Superintendent and via scheduled meetings and engagements designed for the section. The role holder will comply with relevant Materials management systems, methods, policies, processes and standards in the Obuasi context and report to the Materials Planning Superintendent in terms of performance targets, standards and KPIs and risks in compliance with AGA CAR materials management, materials engineering and integrated Supply Chain management frameworks.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Implement established processes and procedures, including governance systems for cataloguing of new stock and non-stock items in SAP to maintain quality of SAP Materials Master data.
• Apply the right tools and documentation as designed to drive the work flow between Materials Planning, Purchasing, the Warehouse, Planned Maintenance, Engineering and Operations in achieving quality reviews and materials planning decisions.
• Strictly comply with the governance system to ensure only routine items with validated future demand are catalogued for purchasing.
• Advise end-users on substitute materials, supercedures in specifications, descriptions or part numbers and the creation of new stock codes.
• Personal development plan and training in cataloguing and materials planning processes and best practises in SAP ERP system
• Work with and demonstrate understanding of Materials Planning Models and systems as designed for critical and routine spares and consumables replenishment as reviewed and driven through SAP.
• Collect and interpret data to a high standard of quality assurance and control
• Objective assessments and interpretation of SAP stock replenishment reports and recommendations.
• Monitor and prompt PR-PO cycle times as released by Buyers to meet internal KPI targets

• Report on the implementation and progress of initiatives and enhancements of the Materials Planning function, to include outputs and benefits obtained.
• Describe the specific problems and constraints to be managed within the Materials Planning function
• Present solutions to specific problems with defined resolution methodologies and resources to deliver improved performance in processes and procedures
• Pre-empt potential crisis in the availability of inventory, process or procedural problems arising within or from the specialist domain through the implementation of Statistical controls (alert system), Specialist practices, systems and procedures and Formalised development plans to improve knowledge and skills within the function
• Demonstrate personal Safety Leadership and help to improve the Culture across the Commercial Department and with own team regarding Safety, Health, Environmental and Sustainable Development
• Work with available resources and expertise as part of the Materials Planning team to capably and consistently deliver the annual budget, according to their role and level of authority

• A working knowledge of Inventory Planning and control in mining, oil & gas or heavy industrial equipment operations.
• Familiarity with SAP ERP system or equivalent ERP application is a requirement.
