1.) Health and Nutrition Officer

Job Title: Health and Nutrition Officer

Location: Borno

Role Purpose

  • Support set-up of IMAM, and IMCI program implementation in targeted state in coordination with relevant stakeholders and in line with best practice.
  • Provide technical leadership within the project in the area of Nutrition and Health ensuring that the activities in this area are established and carried out efficiently and effectively in line with approved detailed implementation plan.
  • Provide on the job training/mentoring to HW across targeted HF on integrated management of childhood illness ensuring minimal or no clinical errors in line with Nigeria clinical guidelines.
  • Coordinate with health and nutrition TAs in the need assessment as it relates to nutrition and health within project areas.
  • Provide technical support to project partner on the implementation of health outreach, MIYCN-E and active case search of acute malnutrition and community mobilization ensuring quality and compliance with national guidelines.
  • Support and ensure coordination of health and nutrition activities with other sectors within the project ensuring person centered multi sectoral project implementation.
  • Determine the training need of health and nutrition workers at the target health facilities and coordinate with internal and external stakeholder to carry IMCI, IMAM, MAMI and MIYCN-E trainings as maybe required.
  • Conduct post training evaluation and determine impact of capacity building and area of improvement.
  • Work closely with health and nutrition TAs define the training need and other technical support of health facilities at all levels.
  • Facilitate and support the operationalization of OTP, c-MIYCN and f-MIYCN across targeted communities in line with national guidelines and utilize the generated information for quality improvement towards reduction of child mortality and morbidity.
  • Work closely with supported facility to improve data management and tracking and reporting of relevant indicators in line with MOH priorities on Nutrition and health outcomes.
  • Work closely with relevant functions to conduct prevention interventions towards reducing nutritional and health risks for children and their mothers including new born.
  • Contribute to regular project review process and prepare the maternal and new born component of project report.
  • Maintain constant and updated knowledge of overall project performance.
  • Maintain daily monitoring of project activities in targeted health facilities.
  • Coordinate with MOH to conduct regular supportive supervision.
  • In line with SCI Clinical Standards Scorecard, maintain quality of care for all maternal and new born health activities.
  • Coordinate with sector lead on budget phasing and ensure project expenditure are on track especially maternal and new born health component.
  • Regularly attend and provide quality contribution to nutrition and health sector meetings and ensure SCI is well represented.
  • Provide technical assistance and policy advice to the targeted state(s) to advocate for and strengthen the health systems from development, implementation, and monitoring of Nutrition and Health interventions in partnership with other collaborating partners.
  • Advocate, coordinate, and build partnerships with state counterparts, technical departments at at the state level to harmonize recommendations on policies and strategies related to Health systems and resolve issues or concerns and seek improved funding for new health sector.

Scope of Role

  • To provide technical support and lead the implementation of nutrition and health component of the projects in line with organizational priorities. Guide in the promotion of early identification of SAM, and nutritionally at-risk mothers and infants, and establish referral linkages to ensure equitable access to quality health and nutrition services. To provide technical support to targeted health facilities on the provision of comprehensive primary health care services, ensuring compliance with national guideline/protocol and SCI clinical standard score card.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Nursing, Medicine, or related field.
  • Recommended a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a humanitarian and development environment, including significant field operations experience and experience working with MOH.
  • Extensive knowledge of nutrition and health interventions.
  • Extensive experience in in stakeholders’ management, participation in TWGs, and other coordination meetings.
  • Significant knowledge of humanitarian and development systems, institutions and donors and best practices in emergency management
  • Ability to analyze information, evaluate options and to think and plan strategically.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and at least one major Nigerian Language

4.) Child Protection Coordinator

Job Title: Child Protection Coordinator

Location: Adamawa
Employment Type: Full Time

Role Purpose

  • The Child Protection Coordinator with the support of the Technical Advisor plays a key role in developing strategy, partnerships and providing oversight on day-to-day project implementation.
  • The coordinator will provide technical support to the Nutrition and Child Protection project in Adamawa state within the Save the Children country program.
  • S/he will oversee the project activities, ensuring effective planning, implementation and monitoring at the field level.

Scope of Role

  • Reports to: Program Manager
  • Staff reporting to this post: Child protection officers and Assistants
  • Role Dimensions: Coordinate all child protection activities

Key Areas of Accountability

  • The Child Protection will be responsible for supporting designing and following up with the technical aspects of the project implementation, strengthening the referral system as well as providing capacity building, and technical expertise.
  • The Child Protection coordinator is the key member of the Child Protection team, expected to possess proven project delivery capacity, effective team management, partner management and integration of CP programming in other sectors.
  • S/he must have a strong background and knowledge on child rights, child protection integration, and CP system strengthening.
  • The post holder will assure quality of programming, adequate coordination and communication on CP activities as well as ensure that SCI support meet the inter-agency guidelines for referrals and the minimum standards for child protection and Gender Based Violence in humanitarian actions.
  • In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.
  • Ensure quality delivery of programme activities, for example, monitoring against log frames, budget forecast and reporting and monitoring on the Budget.
  • Preparation of timely programme and donor reports for child protection project activities in compliance with internal and external requirements.
  • Working closely with Save the Children’s CP team, contribute lessons learnt and best practice experiences from the project inform SC’s strategic planning and the design of future programming strategy and direction, including funding proposals
  • Participate in regular meetings with government, local authorities, partners and other stakeholders to draw lessons, share experiences and monitor progress of the project.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master's Degree in social work or relevant field experience.
  • At least three (3) years post NYSC relevant experience in child protection programming
  • Demonstrable commitment to a holistic vision of children’s welfare
  • Substantial management experience, preferably in emergencies
  • Excellent written and spoken English; local language skills a major advantage
  • Demonstrable competence in report writing
  • Experience of financial planning and expenditure monitoring as applied to grants management

Job Title: Education Officer - ECW

  • Support, encourage and monitor the teachers supported by the programme to ensure children learn in a safe and protective environment.

Information Sharing:

  • With support from the Education Manager, develop, implement and monitor quarterly, monthly and weekly activity plans to achieve expected results. This includes planning of activities, budgets and procurement.
  • Ensure that all planned activities are implemented on time, to quality measures and within budget as per the monthly plan. Where challenges arise, ensure that these are flagged early, communicated to the Education Manager and addressed in a timely manner way.
  • Lead the preparation of all procurement and administrative documents required for programme implementation.
  • Work with teachers, community and implementing partners to increase education service provision e.g development of school safety plans
  • Lead on planning and capacity building training workshops for teachers and other education actors.
  • Work with the community mobilization team and communities (leaders, parents, etc.) and disseminate information about education issues and available services.

  • The Accountability Assistant will be based in Adamawa and will work to put the children and communities we serve at the centre of our work by supporting the humanitarian response to integrate child-friendly, gender-sensitive, inclusive, accessible, and appropriate accountability systems (including information sharing and Feedback and Reporting Mechanisms) and support child participation.

Key Areas of Accountability
Information Sharing:

  • Support the implementation of the Country Office Accountability to Children and Communities Framework.
  • Support data collection on, and analysis of, of information needs, appropriate and trusted information sharing approaches, and inclusive and accessible feedback and reporting channels, based on primary and/or secondary data, led by the MEAL Manager / Accountability Coordinator.
  • Ensure information about Save the Children (SC) and its partners (where relevant) as well as key programme outcomes and activities are shared with children and the wider community in appropriate, timely and accessible ways. This may involve developing information sharing materials such as posters, facilitating the development of “Frequently Asked Questions” documents, and helping programme implementation and child safeguarding teams to develop information sharing plans.

Child and Community Participation:

  • Support child and community participation processes across the programme cycle (including in needs analysis, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation). This could involve facilitating/supporting child-friendly discussions, adult focus group discussions, community meetings, child or community committees and other approaches.
  • Support in ensuring participation is done in accordance to the 9 basic ethics of meaningful and ethical participation
  • Support capacity building of project team and partners on child participation

Feedback and Reporting Mechanism:

  • Support the development and roll-out of accessible and inclusive feedback and reporting channels, to enable Save the Children to receive feedback from children and adults. The channels will vary depending on context, but may include focus group discussions, surveys, helpdesks, hotlines, face-to-face feedback, social media, and other channels.
  • Ensure feedback is handled in line with the agreed Feedback Handling Standard Operating Procedure, and that feedback and responses are registered in the Feedback Database. Quality assures the documentation of feedback (quality of data, categorization, etc.).
  • In line with the Feedback Handling Standard Operating Procedure, receive and register feedback and their responses in Feedback Database. Make sure that feedback is logged in a professional and timely manner.
  • Refer feedback to the appropriate team, including rapid identification and referral of serious concerns such as those related to child safeguarding, unsafe programming, sexual exploitation and abuse, and fraud and corruption.
  • Respond and communicate in a dignified and respectful manner with children and adults regarding their feedback, including informing them of what decisions have been made related to their feedback, and ensuring this is documented in the Feedback Database. Where relevant, support implementation staff to close the feedback loop meaningfully.
  • Contribute to Programme Key Performance Indicator (PKPI) quarterly reporting at national level.

Role Purpose

  • With Funding from ECW, the CP Officer will provide support to the Education and Child Protection Project in Adamawa and is responsible for ensuring that quality mental health and psychosocial support services and case management for children experiencing or at risk of abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence including GBV survivors are provided.
  • Build the staff capacity to provide direct meaningful support to children at risk and GBV survivors, mentor, supervise and monitor team activities and ensure effective coordination and networking system establishment to the rest of child protection team.
  • The CP Officer will be expected to support on child protection sectoral assessment, project planning and coordination with other actors and clusters. In most circumstances, the post holder will be expected to mentor and/or build capacity of implementing partners on the field.

  • Support the CP team by generating a list of cases due for follow up on a weekly basis and monitor this against the number of cases followed up monthly.
  • To provide statistics, information and reports to show progress and trends, and in liaison with the CM officers and Specialist present a monthly analysis to Child protection staff.
  • To conduct regular data quality checks to ensure information collected as part of documentation and monitoring is accurate, reliable, complete, precise, timely and has high integrity.
  • Provide feedback to the case management supervisors on the case management process and strengthen the capacity of case workers to complete forms accurately through one-to-one and group mentoring and review sessions
  • To maintain confidentiality, privacy in the management of cases and observe data protection and confidentiality protocols while managing data. This includes and is not limited to the informed consent or use of data and privacy, but to all information sharing in the CPIMS.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in information management, computer science, social sciences or its equivalent or Diploma in Information Management with a minimum of three (2) years’ work experience in child protection sector

  • Strong self-starter, able to take initiative and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities
