1.) Media Development Advisor

Purpose of the Role
- The Media Development Advisor will provide technical leadership to BBC Media Action’s two multi-country media development projects, as well as providing expert input to the organisation’s wider strategies and support on the area of media development.
Your Key Responsibilties and Impact
- Convene and commission technical expertise to ensure that project teams and partners have access to the best learning, research and technical advice.
- Advise project teams and partners on the design and delivery of capacity strengthening and related activities.
- Support the development and delivery of an evidence generation strategy for the projects.
- Working closely with the programme director, ensure that project results are used to support external policy engagement, including maintaining key technical networks and representing the projects and organisation externally.
- Support the maintenance and development of donor relationships and contribute to the design and development of new media development programming across the organisation.
- Work with partners and country teams to design and develop project tools such as Theories of Change and logical frameworks.
- Work with research teams to coordinate project monitoring and ensure this is feeding into project learning.
Your Skills and Experience
Essential Criteria:
- World-class knowledge and expertise of what influences healthy media ecosystems and how to achieve impact.
- Senior level experience in media development, journalism, current affairs or a closely related area.
- Well-developed ability to work with colleagues and partners across a range of different cultural and professional contexts.
- Experience of supporting professionals working in low-resource settings is highly desirable.
- Experience of technical design for donor-funded media development programmes.
- Extensive contacts and high-level networking ability within the field of media development.
- Proven ability to form and maintain external institutional and professional relationships with others in the field.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
- Good contextual understanding of one or more of the anticipated focus geographies for the portfolio (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Zambia).
- Arabic, French and/or Spanish language skills.

2.) Broadcast Journalist

Purpose of the Role
- Originate and produce, as part of a team, a wide variety of news and current affairs content for TV, radio and online.
Your Key Responsibilities And Impact
- Use a range of video, audio and digital equipment and information technology to research, write, assemble, edit and deliver outputs in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards.
- May be required to present the content on radio, TV or online. This might be live or recorded.
- May include the production and presentation of programmes. This might be live or recorded.
- Exercise editorial judgment in developing story ideas and producing accurate and impartial journalism.
- To undertake pre- and post-production and studio work, live and pre-recorded. Use a range of video, audio and digital equipment and information technology to research, write, assemble, edit and deliver programmes in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards.
- To liaise closely with other team members and with other departments in the BBC, to ensure that output material is shared, duplication is avoided, and best practice is upheld.
- Take a lead within a team setting or on delivering a specific piece of journalism or project as appropriate.
- To tailor different news treatments for different audiences, ensuring that the output reflects the audiences we serve.
- To prioritise and plan activities taking into account all the relevant issues and factors such as deadlines, staffing and resources available.

Essential Criteria

- Significant recent experience as a journalist, with a good knowledge of production techniques.
- Demonstrates sound editorial and policy decisions based upon a clear understanding of the BBC’s distinctive news agenda, the requirements of news and current affairs coverage and the audience.
- Ability to use technology as required, to gather material for broadcast.
- Understands how a dynamic team works effectively.
- Able to build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of people.
- Demonstrates a commitment to improving diversity in the BBC and understands how individual differences can benefit the BBC.
- Effective planning and organising skills, ability to concentrate on several areas of work at one time, delivering consistently to deadlines and reacting positively to changes and conflicting priorities.
- Ability to write creatively in an engaging manner, adapt, produce and translate with accuracy, clarity and style appropriate to differing audiences and forms of media suitable for multimedia output.

3.) Project Officer, Nigeria
Job Title: Project Officer, Nigeria
Location: Nigeria (Right to work in Nigeria required)
Reports to: Senior Project Manager
Contract: Fixed-term employment
Duration: One year
Job Purpose
- The BBC Media Action office in Nigeria is looking for a Project Officer to support the delivery of a portfolio of projects across Nigeria.
- This role involves providing support in developing and writing proposals and reports, overseeing contractual procedures and compliance, and building and maintaining relationships with a diverse range of partners, including broadcasters, NGOs, international development agencies, government coordinating bodies, and audiences.
- Additionally, the role includes stakeholder and resource management, such as organising training programmes and logistics.
- The role reports to the Senior Project Manager and will work closely with other departments.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide support to the team to ensure that projects are delivered to the highest standards, including monitoring the delivery of projects against agreed objectives and the work plan.
- Support the project management team with all donor narratives and financial reports to be submitted across all projects
- Communicate and coordinate effectively with BBC Media Action Nigeria’s project
implementation partners, including programme delivery partners. - Manage relationships with broadcast partners and oversee the broadcast partner output distribution process.
- Liaise with other BBC Media Action teams and ensure delivery of specific components of projects as agreed.
- Provide support to business development, including coordinating input into proposals and writing or editing proposals and budgets.
- Serve as the contact person for correspondence with the partner stations’ management, including sending out invitations and announcements of project activities.
- Coordinate due diligence checks with partner stations we will be working with under our different project activities.
- Ensure that project activities comply with BBC Media Action and donor standards around the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.
- The role will also lead or support in ensuring that relevant safeguarding due diligence is conducted with any local partner organisations that may be working with vulnerable adults or children as part of the project, and where any
risks are identified, ensure that projects are designed to mitigate these risks. - Any other tasks assigned by Media Action to achieve project and organisational objectives.
Required skills, Knowledge, and Experience
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven track record in forming effective relationships with a range of local and international partners.
- Experience managing activity budgets and reporting/providing updates against scheduled activities and/or spend.
- Experience in report writing.
- Good judgment and decision-making skills, including the ability to adapt, react and respond to crises, and to evaluate risk.
- Ability to work on own initiative and organise time effectively within a range of often conflicting deadlines, juggling competing priorities to meet project needs and objectives.
- Demonstrable business development skills.
- Understanding of and commitment to international development, including the use of media for developmental goals.
