1.) Internship – ICT

 

IFDC is seeking an outgoing and innovative-minded candidate who is motivated to work in a projectized environment and enjoys working with smallholder farmers, aggregators, processors, transporters, off-takers, and traders, to support the IFDC NBD unit and project teams with performance improvement ICT tools.





Main Responsibilities

This position offers the intern an opportunity to learn and perform the following functions:

  • Directly assist the NBD team in presentations and documents formatting and other ICT related project assignments
  • Assist IFDC projects with innovative digital technology dissemination tools to promote adoption of technologies by farmers
  • Work with other projects’ team members on processes and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of project deliverables
  • Using appropriate computer programs, help generate effective visual charts to present project key information to a broad audience
  • More importantly, assist in data collection, analyses, creation of database and presentation of project findings
    • Any other duties as deemed necessary

Requirements

  • Education: preferably a graduate in ICT and Statistics, Actuarial Science, Analytics, or related subjects
  • Must be able to demonstrate verbal and written communication, competence in statistical analysis, and reasoning skills.
  • Basic operation of ICT Hardware (printers, scanners, tablets, projectors etc..)
  • Editing images using appropriate computer software (Adobe Photoshop…)
  • Using computers and the internet safely
  • Browsing and posting on Youtube and social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Linkedln)
  • Working knowledge of languages used in coding and programming (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
  • Sending and receiving information using data sharing applications and cloud storage systems such as Google Drive or Dropbox
  • Proposal writing skills and a working knowledge of French is a plus

2.) Internship – Gender and Youth Inclusion

 

IFDC is seeking an innovative-minded candidate who is motivated to work in a projectized environment and enjoys working with stakeholders in the agriculture value chain to improve agricultural productivity and profitability of smallholder farmers in Ghana especially women and youth farmers who represent key sensitive groups. The Gender and Youth Inclusion Intern is expected to contribute to the planning and implementation of allagricultural development activities and ensure effective inclusion of the gender and youth dimensions in all agribusiness opportunities in the sub-region.

Main Responsibilities

    • Assist the NBD team by ensuring that country Youth and Gender Inclusive Policies are included in NBD’s business proposals
    • Support project teams by deploying the right gender and youth tools in project planning and implementation; thus, ensuring that gender and youth dimensions are appropriately integrated in all project trainings as appropriate;
    • Contribute to monitoring and identifying instances of gender and youth disparities in project design and implementation and propose corrective remedial measures;
    • Participate in the collection of data using appropriate tools for MEL purposes
    • Document successful activities and methodologies on gender and youth integration;
    • Other tasks may be assigned

 





Requirements

  • A graduate in Gender Studies, Sociology, Psychology, Rural Development, Agric Extensions, Development Studies, and related subjects from an accredited institution
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Good communication in English (both writing and speaking) and oral presentation skills
  • Proposal writing skills and a working knowledge of French is a plus
  • Good computer skills is an added advantage
  • A good understanding and appreciation of gender and youth themes in agriculture is appreciated;

3.) Internship – Post Harvest Technology

 

IFDC is seeking an innovative-minded candidate who is motivated to work in a projectized environment and enjoys working with smallholder farmers, aggregators, processors, transporters, off-takers, and traders by assisting them to improve on their postharvest management practices to prevent or reduce losses and food hazards.

Main Responsibilities

This position offers the intern an opportunity to learn and practice as s/he takes part in performing the following functions:

  • Assist in identifying and documenting innovative post-harvest technologies locally adapted and effective in postharvest losses reduction among smallholder farmers in Ghana
  • Assist the NBD team to incorporate appropriate postharvest management technologies in the business concept notes and proposals
  • Support NBD and project teams to introduce innovative postharvest management practices to smallholder agricultural upstream value chains actors in a manner that bring reduced losses, high profitability, household food security, and reduced poverty
  • Assist in collecting and anlyzing postharvest losses and food wastage baseline data to support implementation and project performance measurement
  • When needed, assist in conducting postharvest research
  • Support with the development of training and extension programs in postharvest technology
  • Assist in preparing technical reports and research articles for publication.
  • Assist NBD team to identify funding opportunities to implement projects with an innovative postharvest managemnt component
  • Perform any other duties as deemed necessary.

Required Qualification

  • A graduate in Postharvest Technology, Postharvest Engineering, Postharvest Physiology, Horticulture, or any other related fields from accredited institutions
  • Appreciable knowledge and skills in upstream agricultural raw materials quality and safety management
  • Good communication in English (both writing and speaking) and presentation skills
  • Proposal writing skills and a working knowledge of French is a plus

4.) Internship – Food Security and Nutrition

 

IFDC is seeking an innovative-minded candidate who is motivated to work in a projectized environment and enjoys working to improve food and nutrition security of smallholder farmers and their households. The intern will have the opportunity to apply theoretical concepts acquired during academic trainings by assuming the following responsibilities.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist the NBD team to address food and nutrition security issues in relevant business opportunities, including capture planning and in proposal development
  • Support NBD team and project teams to ensure that best practices and minimum quality standards are consistently applied across maternal, child health, and nutrition activities
  • Assist NBD team and project teams in planning and implementation of food and nutrition security interventions in the sub-region
  • Assist in collecting and anlyzing food and nutrition security baseline data to support implementation and project performance measurement
  • Identify effective pathways towards improving nutrition practices and health conditions among vulnerable populations to consider during proposal development.
  • Participate in the collection of data on complex social issues, including women’s empowerment, behavior change, livelihood resilience, and adaptations to climate change that affect food security
  • Support data quality assessments for relevant food security and nutrition activities and assist in the development and refinement of benchmarks and indicators
  • Any other food and nutrition security as deemed necessary.

 

Required Qualification

  • A graduate in Food & Nutrition Security, Community Nutrition, Food Security, Human Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, Integrated Development Studies, and related subjects from an accredited institution
  • A good understanding of human nutrition and health relationships, unbalanced nutrition and nutritional deficiencies especially in the youth and pregnant women
  • Good communication skills in English (both writing and speaking) and presentation skills using PowerPoint
  • Proposal writing skills and a working knowledge of French is a plus
  • Ability to statistically analyze food and nutrition security data using IT tools such as Epi-Info, SPSS, GenStats, etc
  • General IT skills e.g. MS Word, Excel, PPT, etc.

5.) Internship – Food Safety and Quality Standards

 

IFDC is seeking an outgoing and freethinking candidate who is motivated to work in a projectized environment and enjoys working with smallholder farmers, aggregators, processors, transporters, offtakers, and traders by assisting them to improve on their sanitary and food safety and quality requirements and standards according to the market or government regulations.

 

Main Responsibilities

This position offers the intern an opportunity to learn and perform the following functions:

  • Assist NBD (New Business Development) team in identifying and or designing projects that fully promote adoption and compliance of food safety principles and quality standards e.g. HACCP, GlobalGAP, Codex norms, etc. among stakeholders to meet off-takers’ quality standards.
  • Work closely with IFDC projects’ beneficiairies e.g. farmers, processors etc. to ensure they are quality-audit ready
  • Assist in training project beneficiaries’ employees on best food safety, hygiene and handling procedures necessary to prevent contamination of food products and hazards
  • Assist in preparing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the key projects beneficiaries and conduct meetings or workshops to explain and operationalize the SOPs with the target beneficiaries
  • Assist target project beneficiaries to understand and ensure compliance with all the relevant standards administered by Food and Drug Authority (FDA), Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as well as Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), traceability, etc.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary

Requirements

  • A graduate in Food Safety, Food Quality Management, Food Science, Food Technology, Postharvest Technology, Agronomy, and other related fields from an accredited institution
  • Must have appreciable knowledge and skills in upstream food safety and quality standards e.g. HACCP, GlobalGAP, Codex norms, etc.

6.) Internship – Irrigation Agronomy

 

IFDC is seeking an outgoing and innovative-minded candidate who is motivated to work in a projectized environment and enjoys working to improve the productivity and profitability of smallholder farmers cropping systems in Ghana. The Irrigation Agronomy Intern, is expected to contribute to the planning and implementation of all measures related to irrigated agriculture development within various IFDC projects.

Main Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the inclusion of irrigation project components in concept notes and proposals that require irrigation, mainly small scale irrigation for new business development;
  • Assist in preparing work plans and budget in line with project proposals with an irrigation component;
  • Advise on suitable irrigation systems for food crops, vegetables, fruit trees and fodder in smallholder farmers’ settings;
  • Prepare training modules and materials on improved agronomic practices under irrigation, setup and maintenance of small scale irrigation systems in collaboration with NBD and other IFDC staff;
  • Design and assist in implementing irrigation demonstration plots with particular emphasis  on drip irrigation systems as innovative agricultural practice;
  • Assist in planning the setting up of functional water user groups (associations) in local communities;
  • Contribute to the elaboration of environmental and social impact assessments for the individual measures in new proposals;
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the line manager.

Requirements

  • A graduate degree in Agronomy, Irrigation Agronomy, Plant Sciences, Crop sciences, Arid land agriculture, Extension and other related disciplines from an accredited institution
  • Good communication in English (both writing and speaking) and presentation skills
  • Proposal writing skills and a working knowledge of French is a plus
  • Good interpersonal skills within the  IFDC NBD team
  • Basic computer skills including the ability to prepare illustrated PowerPoint presentations for a broad audience
