2.) Genetic Counsellor (Part Time)

1.) Biomedical Procurement Officer
Job Summary

• The candidate will be responsible for managing and processing all procurement requests from Postgraduate Fellows and project teams to advance the achievement of research and training goals of the Centre. The candidate will be required to have current knowledge of biomedical research reagents and to advise, and make recommendations based on current market data.






Duties and Responsibilities

• Receive and process procurement requests from Postgraduate Fellows and laboratories and provide frequent updates on status of requests
• Participate in procurement committee meetings and provide management with weekly reports on status of procurement requests
• Prepare quarterly procurement performance reports and market research reports for review by management
• Develop and maintain a list of approved suppliers to track quality of supplies/equipment, encourage competitive pricing and ensure timely awards and execution of contracts
• Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with suppliers to encourage prompt responses to requests, open dialogue and cooperation in identifying best options that add value to purchasing decisions
• Liaise with suppliers to ensure adherence to contract agreements and lead corrective action plans in the instance of breach of contract
• Receive and inspect items/consumables on delivery to ascertain compliance with stated specifications
• Take on any other related duties which may be assigned

Qualification Required & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical/Health Sciences Minimum 3 years of experience in procurement/marketing/sales in the medical/related field
• Ability to collect and analyse information to make accurate input for negotiations and procurement decisions
• Sufficient knowledge and understanding of procurement laws in Ghana High proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word and intermediate Power Point skills
• Excellent communications and interpersonal skills including fluency in English, ability to communicate effectively with
• different groups, maintain respectful demeanour towards colleagues, suppliers and representatives of partner institutions, and have good report writing skills
• Good computer literacy skills, with competencies in spreadsheets, word processing power point, electronic communications applications, including teleconferencing

2.) Genetic Counsellor (Part Time)
Job Summary

• The candidate will be responsible for the clinical skills training, teaching, research support and supervision of MSc Genetic Counselling students.
• The candidate should be an accredited genetic counsellor with practical experience in genetic counselling, highly skilled in clinical supervision, teaching/training, public engagement, and research.
• Candidates will be required to successfully complete a Cultural Adaptation course with the Ghana Psychology Council, and become registered with the Council to practice in Ghana.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop course manuals, detailed lesson plans, and a 1032-hour practicum schedule for rotation of MSc genetic counselling students in haematology, cancer, child health, and obstetrics
• Work with Heads of Clinical Units to develop a plan for adequate clinical supervision and support of students during rotations at each Unit
• Adopt evidence and competency-based as well as student-centred and integrated learning activities that improve clinical skills learning
• Adopt advanced, practical, and fair methods of assessment that promote active learning critical thinking, self-reflection, personal growth, and teamwork
• Closely monitor students’ clinical skills and broader educational needs, appropriately guiding training and learning in ways that ensure eventual development of competencies comparable to world-class standards as well as ensure that students are fit for purpose in the local setting
• Ensure consistency of teaching of the MSc programme working closely with Course Leaders, and develop collaborative research focused genetic counselling
• Ensure long essays are fit for purpose, and secure materials and resources to support teaching learning and assessment of clinical skills and knowledge
• Work closely with the Programme Coordinators and the Ghana Psychology Council to ensure smooth progression of graduates to interns

Qualification Required & Experience

• Master’s Degree in Genetic Counselling or equivalent
• Registration by a national accreditation body as a Genetic Counsellor
• Minimum three years post qualification practical work experience
• Experience in all aspects of genetic counselling including determining risk factors for inherited and acquired genetic disorders, genetics tests, assessing patients’ psychological and sociocultural needs, and offering education and counselling in a diversity of genetic disorders
• Experience in planning, teaching, supervising, assessing, and managing clinical skills training of MSc genetic counselling students
• Excellent communications and interpersonal skills including fluency in English and report writing
• Good computer literacy skills, with competencies in spreadsheets, word processing, power point, electronic communications applications, including teleconferencing and distance learning platforms

3.) Research Fellow (Biomedical Clinical)
Job Summary

• The Research Fellow position is equivalent to a university lecturer position with a unique focus on research scholarship and grant monitoring and evaluation.
• The successful candidates will be offered 3-5 year mentored research in biomedical clinical genetics in a variety of areas including blood disorders, diabetes, kidney disease and cancer with the goal of transitioning to become an independent investigator by the 5th year of Fellowship.
• The candidates will be assigned a portfolio of PhD and Master’s degree Fellowship Awards to monitor and evaluate in collaboration with WAGMC Grants Administration staff, and the host department of the WAGMC Postgraduate Fellowship.
• Additional duties will include teaching and mentoring of graduates and undergraduates.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct mentored research in biomedical clinical genetics in one of the following thematic areas: a) blood disorders, b) diabetes and kidney disease, and c) cancer
• Develop new research ideas and methodologies, participate in collaborations focused on cutting edge research, develop research commercialization and consultancy portfolios
• Develop individual innovative research projects and obtain grants to support the work, and contribute to Centre-wide research and research training grants
• Teach and supervise students, contribute to the development, coordination, and implementation of academic programmes in accordance with the aims of the Centre and the policy, strategy, and procedures of the University of Ghana
• Monitor and evaluate the research progress of postgraduate fellows: provide scientific review of research supplies requests, track research progress documenting challenges and devising solutions to overcome the challenges
• Review Postgraduate Fellows progress reports and provide expert recommendations to promote their work and timely completion of projects
• Participate in seminars and thesis committee meetings of Postgraduate Fellows to gain in-depth understanding of their
• work and research support needs, and work with their supervisors to promote completion of projects and close of Awards

Qualification Required & Experience

• PhD in Human/Medical/Molecular Genetics or Biomedical/Health Sciences programme with at least 3 years postdoctoral research experience
• Evidence of teaching and mentoring graduate students
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including fluency in English, effective communication with different groups and report writing
• Good computer literacy skills, with competencies in spreadsheets, word processing, power point. electronic communications applications, including teleconferencing and distance learning platforms

4.) Facilities Manager (Full Time)

Job Summary

• The candidate will be responsible for planning and coordinating the construction, installation, refurbishment, maintenance and security of various physical facilities of the Centre including buildings, equipment's and vehicles.
• The candidate will work closely with the Physical Development and Municipal Services, and the Logistics Directorates of the University of Ghana to accomplish project objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Coordinate planning and construction of WAGMC Building Complex, working with the Centre’s Environmental and Social
• Safeguards Officer and the Procurement Officer to inspect building materials and to ensure compliance of proper construction methods
• Coordinate the use, and maintain records of the condition of assets; develop and keep maintenance record of all assets:
• Ensure assets meet health and safety standards as well as legal requirements
• Develop and monitor preventive maintenance programmes for all assets to ensure optimum functioning
• Ensure offices and research laboratories are properly cleaned, well lit, have access to water and fumigated as required to ensure suitability of the work environment
• Manage all refurbishments, renovations, office relocations and movement of assets to ensure smooth execution of moving plans
• Research and keep record of costs related to deep cleaning, waste disposal, security and parking in order to contribute to budgetary planning by management
• Liaise with suppliers and vendors contracted to provide goods and services to ensure compliance with contractual agreements
• Plan and conduct safety training programmes for personnel

Qualification Required & Experience

• Master’s degree in Facilities Management Building Engineering or related field
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in facilities/properties management
• Ability to manage varied and complex workload under high pressure situations Technical knowledge and understanding of building services
• High proficiency in use of Microsoft Excel, Word and intermediate Power Point skill
• Excellent communications and interpersonal skills including fluency in English, ability to communicate effectively with different groups; maintain respectful demeanour towards colleagues, suppliers and representatives of partner institutions, and have good report writing skills
• Good computer literacy skills, with competencies in spreadsheets, word processing, power point, electronic communications applications, including teleconferencing
