1.) Government Affairs & Public Policy Manager
Location: Lagos, Nigeria
About the Job
- As a member of Google’s Government Affairs and Public Policy team, you'll be part of a diverse global government affairs team, working across regions, product areas, and functions.
- You’ll combine creativity and intellectual excellence with the organizational skills to manage various campaigns, projects and initiatives. In this role, you’ll advocate for Google to bring external perspectives back into the company to inform our perception and direction.

- As our Manager for Public Policy and Government Affairs in SSA, you will represent Google externally with government, regulators and third parties, and help manage our local public policy strategy and campaigns, with a specific view of cross-border/regional initiatives with organizations such as the Africa Union, Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), East African Community (EAC) & Southern African Development Community (SADC).
- You are required to have significant experience either working with or in government, regional bodies (AU, ECOWAS, EAC and SADC), politics or a regulatory agency and an ability to grasp complex technical and policy issues.
- You will work with a cross-functional team of Google employees in Africa and with a closely-coordinated global Public Policy team to advance policy positions that benefit our users.
- You will manage our various product agendas with policy makers inside and outside government as part of the SSA team. Also, you will help advise our product and engineering teams on the public policy implications of their products, working with a closely coordinated and cross-functional global team.
- Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges.
- The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company’s engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others’ views and opinions, and distill and share the company’s perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.

Responsibilities
- Engage directly with policymakers, industry players and key opinion formers to shape policy and political dialogue on thoughtful, responsible technology policy and the beneficial impact it can contribute to society and economy.
- Develop and execute advocacy/policy campaigns in relevant policy areas that impact Google and the web.
- Engage with trade associations, industry partners, NGOs and others to support policies that will help create/maintain the web open.
- Monitor and research current and relevant emerging public policy issues considering how Google should work with allied organisations and industries.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience working with or in government, politics, or a regulatory agency.
- Experience engaging directly with politicians, decision makers, academia, think tanks, business associations and NGOs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the Pan African regional blocks e.g. Africa Union, ECOWAS.
- Ability to develop and lead public policy campaigns across the full range of policy areas that impact Google and the web. Key issues include technology innovation, content regulation, privacy, safety, data protection.
- Excellent communicator with presentation skills, and the ability to write well and translate complex issues into simple language that non experts can understand.
- Team player with the ability to exercise good judgment in a rapidly changing environment.

2.) Manager, Product Partnerships, YouTube

- YouTube’s Product Partnerships team accelerates the global growth and innovation of YouTube products by driving new business opportunities through partnerships.
- We own the business side of new features, products and initiatives that are vital to the success of YouTube. As a team member, you understand the landscape of partnerships opportunities across technology licensing/integrations, marketing, and distribution.
- You will also craft strategies, define and structure critical partnerships, negotiate agreements, and cultivate our relationships.
- As the Product Partnership Manager at YouTube, you will drive YouTube’s growth, through driving successful partner implementations and increasing user adoption and awareness of YouTube products, across the the largest markets in the Sub-Saharan Africa region.
- You’ll work with our partners on new product launches, product integration, marketing campaigns, feature requests, and strategic planning, as well as managing business creation and growth. In addition, you will support global initiatives using your insights and perspectives from local markets.
- To be a successful candidate, you will present yourself as a thought leader with an analytical mindset and exceptional communication and relationship management skills, who has a a deep understanding of emerging market challenges and the ability to see multiple steps ahead and to identify industry trends and key influencers.
- You also have strong negotiation and partnering skills and specific experience in dealing at the executive levels of top companies.
- You should be able to work autonomously to close business opportunities but also collaboratively with product, engineering, legal, and other partner-facing teams to initiate, support, and grow partners and YouTube’s business.
Responsibilities
- Manage partnerships that drive distribution of and access to YouTube’s applications and services, and drive significant awareness and user growth with mobile operator and broadband partners in SSA.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with partners including management and optimization of existing partners, support and track new partners through the launch process, agreement negotiations, and liaise with YouTube product and technical support teams in other regions.
- Work with YouTube Product & Content Partnership and other internal teams to define and execute country strategy to accelerate growth as new initiatives arise.
- Execute scalable user acquisition through partnerships and marketing programs.
- Define and analyze partner metrics and account plans and present them to YouTube management teams and partners.

Qualifications

- Experience in client-facing business development roles.

- Experience closing deals and managing relationships with the major telecom operators of Africa and OEMs, developing detailed account plans.
- Demonstrated success at working with cross-functional teams and building strong relationships across departments, including sales, marketing, business development, engineering, and product management.
- Strong understanding of mobile and broadband business models and priorities for partners.
- Ability to articulate new concepts and business models that are unique to Africa’s emerging markets to a global cross-functional team.
