AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

1.) Senior Supervisor – Production

 

Role Purpose

• The Senior Supervisor - Production among other duties will be accountable for leading the shift team to ensure safe and effective running of the various unit operations such as milling circuit, gravity circuit, thickeners, elution, and CIP.

Role Accountabilities

• Maintain a safe workplace within the department as well as ensure compliance to all site policies and procedures
• High Security Consciousness
• Ensure the various KPI’s (mill throughput (720tph wet), milling efficiency (95% utilization), cyclone efficiencies (65% passing 106µm), recovery (96%), 14 elution strips per week) at a given mill availability are achieved.
• Troubleshoot problems that hinder production.
• Ensure full compliance to ICMI code, ISO 45001:2018 in the plant and maintain the highest standards in terms of safety
• Check and monitor the use of required reagent addition rates as determined by the metallurgical technical team to ensure maximum plant recovery and reagent optimization.
• Demonstrate in depth knowledge in a CIP/CIL operation utilizing SAG & Ball mills
• Ensure all mills run within the required set parameters (power and weight) for optimum operations.
• Assist in the reviewing of safe work procedures and ensure all work is done per the available procedures.
• Participate in all meetings with engineering and production to ensure co-ordination of production activities between operators and maintenance in a timely manner to ensure maximum plant utilization.
• Work closely with the process control group with regards to operational changes and troubleshooting of circuit deficiencies.
• Implement improvement ideas that ensure continuous improvements of our operations in terms of safe, production and cost.
• Review shift report on occurrences during the shift to ensure all down times are captured and initiate actions to correct all deviation. Escalate all issues that are beyond his control within the time specified in the call out procedure.
• Ensure good housekeeping for the various unit of the plant.
• Ensure maximum labour utilization and compile timely labour hours work per shift for payment of salaries and allowances.

Qualification Required & Experience

Person’s Specification

• BSc in Metallurgical, Mineral Engineering or its related field from a recognized institution
• High Security Consciousness
• Minimum of five (5) years working experience in CIL operations
• Certified by Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission of Ghana as a Processing Supervisor/Engineer or Senior Process Supervisor/Engineer or above
• Competent to handle multiple tasks to achieve the required result
• Effective supervision, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills
• Good knowledge in computer application especially the use of Microsoft Excel and power point.
• Medically fit for the position and the environment
• Possess valid Ghanaian Driving Licence and proficiency to drive light vehicle

2.) Chief Ventilation Engineer

 

ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

• The incumbent will plan/engineer and co-ordinate the ventilation requirements for the mine in line with the established mine plans and Ghana Mining Regulations, ensuring AGAG provides an occupational environment which is conducive to good health, safety and productivity (through anticipation, monitoring, recognition, evaluation and control of factors that may cause adverse or dangerous conditions).

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Develop functional ventilation processes for implementation and progress tracking including the:
• Establishment of suitable systems and procedures to ensure an effective and efficient implementation of the ventilation/occupational hygiene strategies and programs.
• Development of ventilation component of the MTS Management Operating System.
• Establishment of an integrated data capture and reporting system
• Design and model life of mine (LOM) ventilation options in support of LOM mining plan (using Ventsim Visual)
• Manage ventilation projects (including shafts, raise-bore primary fan construction/refurbishment, Return Airway stripping, etc.) to optimize development of the Obuasi Mine envisaged in P300.
• Optimize short term, medium and long terms ventilation plans that ensure delivery of budget requirements and operations strategy
• Develop and submit the annual cost centre budget to achieve the required targets for approved Ventilation Outputs
• Manage the integrated delivery of work by the Ventilation function within approved budget targets and specified timeframes, cost and related KPIs
• Demonstrate Safety Leadership and improve the Culture in ventilation and the MTS department regarding Safety, Health, Environmental and Sustainable Development
• Identify the environmental aspects of all activities/areas of oversight responsibilities and provide appropriate mitigation measures.
• Investigate, respond and take measures to prevent actual / potential environmental incidents in the areas of responsibility.
• Responsible for continuous environmental improvement in the areas of work.
• Provide the systems, resources and expertise to develop the Ventilation team to capably and consistently deliver the annual budget, LoM plan and strategy according to their role and level of authority
• Rigorously drive implementation of projects and strategies and nurture and sustain a culture of Accountability and Continuous Improvement within the Ventilation function
• Develop and maintain constructive relationships with Internal Stakeholders (Exco, Corporate, Group Planning & Technical, sister mines, CARO etc.) and external Stakeholders (Regulatory Agencies and Authorities, Minerals Commission) to establish existing and changing societal and regulatory expectations and requirements

Qualification Required & Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mining/Mechanical Engineering
• Certificate in Mine Environmental Control
• A post graduate certificate in Management/Management practice would be considered a strong asset

Experience

• A minimum of 10 to 15 years of relevant ventilation engineering experience in underground mining environment with some exposure in occupational hygiene
• At least 5 years’ experience in the chief ventilation engineering role
• Ability to analyze and interprete ventilation data and the requisite ventilation methods for different stoping techniques
• Capable of analyzing and interpreting data on environmental stressors
• Capable of developing ventilation design criteria to support safe and optimal mine operations.
• Capable of developing ventilation standard operating procedures
• Capable to carry out aero, thermo & contaminant modelling and interpret results
• A high level of computer literacy with specialized ventilation and mining software such as Ventism, Vuma, Studio 5D/Surpac, Autocad etc.
• A good understanding on blasting time and blasting scheduling

• Mine Rescue certificate
• Shiftboss certificate

Technical Competencies

• Experience in Ventilation functional Management;
• Demonstrate knowledge in the mining operations value chain
• Demonstrate capacity to interpret data and successfully action sound tactical decisions

• Good user of Ventilation Software (Ventsim/Vuma)
• Safety (Advanced Application): Can identify and interpret safety risks and resolve emerging issues; and ensuring that appropriate focus and resources are available to achieve safety objectives.

3.) Mechanical Supervisor – Process Plant

 

ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

• The Mechanical Supervisor – Process Plant is accountable for the monitoring and control of output of Processing Plant structural, mechanical, plate work and pipe works refurbishment to standard, through the application of operational policies, standards, processes and procedures to maximise plant availability in a sustainable cost-effective manner and minimize operational risks in order to meet the business’ strategic objective.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Work according to total quality management principles & ensure zero defect objectives & safety
• Adhere to site’s Environmental Management Plan
• Gather information for the Mechanical Superintendent – Processing Plant for reporting performance
• Ensure maximum efficiency of equipment and high plant availability in a safe and sustainable manner by efficiently and effectively maintaining and improving all fixed plant mechanical installations.
• Support the mechanical refurbishment and maintenance of Processing Plant in the project and transition into operations.
• Lead a group of mechanical tradespeople consisting of mechanical fitters, fabricators and boilermakers. Coordinating the day to day issuing of work orders and assisting with any breakdown work daily for the processing plant during the Phase1 & 2 Operations.
• Assist the Mechanical Superintendent – Processing Plant to develop condition monitoring routes and checks for processing equipment.
• Monitor preventive and corrective actions as necessary.
• Generate work requests in SAP as required for refurbishment/maintenance planning and scheduling.
• Ensure routine condition monitoring tasks are performed on all the rotating equipment by data collection using advanced portable data collectors and other tools according to the established schedules and as per the plant requirements.
• Actively participate in maintenance review programmes and Root Cause Failure Analysis process of mechanical equipment as per requirements.
• Conduct reviews of the refurbishment fabrication, later maintenance, of the Processing Plant to identify actions for continuous improvement.
• Monitor general physical condition of plant assets and report
• Monitor preventive and corrective actions as necessary.
• Gather information on vibration & other data collected in order to diagnose / troubleshoot rotating machinery problems.
• Identify, communicate, and implement potential cost reduction initiatives.
• Propose cost savings projects.
• Execute work in a timely manner; coordinate refurbishment fabrication work contractors to time plan, escalate real or potential delays.
• Monitor equipment performance on asset health system and take proactive measures to address symptoms of potential failure

Qualification Required & Experience

• Diploma/Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Maintenance Management, or equivalent.
• Financial, commercial and project management through work experience and courses

Experience

• An experienced mechanical maintenance Supervisor with 5+ years’ experience in, preferably, Metallurgical processing plant maintenance.
• Experience with Maintenance/Operating of Processing Plants.
• Experience in management of Maintenance and Repair Contracts (MARC).
• Knowledge of SAP PM Module.






Legal Requirements

• Must possess Sectional Engineer’s Certificate of Competency from Mineral Commission of Ghana.
• Professional Certificated Supervisor with a relevant certification body.

Technical Competencies

• Strong mechanical maintenance competencies in mining and/or extractive metallurgy environment
• Sound project management skills
• Should have analytical skills to be able to evaluate information and solve complex problems.
• Detail oriented to understand complex systems, and recognition that a minor error can cause major problems.
• Commercially astute and able to work effectively with third parties.
• Legally astute with respect to project delivery and maintenance systems
• Excellent skills in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Project and Excel
• Must be able to communicate about technical issues both orally and in writing

4.) Superintendent – Fleet

 

ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

• The Superintendent – Fleet is accountable for the development and implementation of world-class maintenance practices for Underground and Surface Mobile Plant (Fleet), and related infrastructure/facilities belonging to this area.
• The application of operational engineering policies, standards, systems and procedures to maximise plant availability in a sustainable, cost-effective manner and minimise operational risks to meet the business’ strategic objective.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Deliver the Safety Management plan elements for the areas under the incumbent’s control.
• Provide technical input to management to develop the safety management plan, consistent with AGA’s standards.
• Review the application of safety standards and work practices for the area.
• Apply HSE regulations with zero tolerance to breaches.
• Demonstrate safety behaviour consistent with AGAG’s vision and values.
• Lead by example to create a safe working environment, where risks are assessed and managed, so tasks are performed without risk of injury or harm.
• As a minimum, achieve zero reportable environmental incidents, zero compliance breaches and no events requiring public disclosure.
• Utilise, ‘Analyse and Improve’ tools to investigate system interruptions so that exposure to environmental risks is reduced.
• Support the Manager to ensure the organisation structure is capable of delivering the maintenance strategy.

• Verify that supervisors develop a skills matrix that includes all disciplines and individual achievements.

• Provide input to Operational Readiness for the Fleet maintenance throughout the operation.

• Support the development and implementation of systems for the Engineering and Mining departments to provide effective planning of work, efficient and safe work practices, monitoring of performance and promote continuous improvement.
• Ensure the work carried out by the maintenance team is of a standard that supports the operational requirements of the equipment and is at optimum cost.
• Identify sub-standard work practices and take action to eliminate them and identify the root cause of these poor work practices.
• Assign tasks to direct reports in line with achieving the agreed production plan.
• Lead a team of engineers to specify, design, analyse and verify new components and systems.
• Implement corporate programs such as asset management strategies, System for People, Operational Effectiveness, etc. across areas of control.
• Deploy strategies to identify defects in the workplace.
• Monitor the supply, availability and condition of parts, inventory, general and specific consumables and rotatable equipment required to provide assured sustainable operation of the mining operation.
• Provide input for the preparation of the departmental budget that supports the company’s objectives and strategy.
• Ensure cost impacts in the area of accountability are evaluated, approved, and budget is revised.
• Identify, communicate and implement potential cost reduction initiatives.
• Identify all current and potential risks promptly to the Refurbishment, Construction and Maintenance activities utilising the established Risk Management System, identifying activities and strategies to eliminate, manage or mitigate these risks
• Develop an asset management strategy in the area of accountability based on the Obuasi Operation’s expected life of mine (LOM).
• Utilise the SAP asset maintenance management system in maintenance activities.
• Ensure all direct reports are competent in the utilisation of the SAP asset maintenance management system to support a smooth transition into operations.
• Liaise and work collaboratively with the procurement team to establish the inventory and spare parts for the Underground Mine Mobile Equipment.
• Develop and maintain the Fleet Management Plan as a key Project Execution Plan sub-plan in the area of accountability.
• Provide input and support into establishing and maintaining Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), budget, schedule, and construction work packs for refurbishment activities.
• Oversee the Requests for Information (RFI) and Technical Query (TQ) process, review and approve appropriate technical and non-technical documentation.
• Oversee and witness inspections and testing regime to ensure quality and or performance is in line with obligations and expectations
• Prepare weekly, monthly and quarterly reports, produce accurate and timely information that can clearly convey the status of safety, cost, schedule and quality for the refurbishment works.
• Inspect all works to ensure works are delivered in accordance with applicable designs, specifications and expectations.






Qualification Required & Experience

• Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Maintenance Engineering, or equivalent
• Financial, commercial and project management through work experience and courses

Experience

• An experienced mechanical / maintenance engineer with 5+ years’ experience in an underground environment.
• HME/LME experience
• Experience in management of Maintenance and Repair Contracts (MARC) and Mobile equipment.
• Experience in Project Management
• Knowledge of SAP PM Module.

• Must possess Superintendent Certificate of Competency from Mineral Commission of Ghana
