1.) Water Resource Engineer
Location: Adamawa
Department: Facilities & Projects Management
Reports to: Director, Facilities & Projects Management
Oversees whom: All Water Resource Team Members
Summary of Position
- The Water Resources Engineer is responsible for managing and maintaining a wide range of technical and non-technical duties including the role of supplying, managing, and maintaining clean water and sewage/wastewater services and preventing flood damages.
Detailed Listing of Responsibilities
- Responsible for installing, repairing and maintaining pipes, boreholes, fixtures and other plumbing used for water distribution and waste water disposal in University and residential buildings.
- Supervises the operation and maintenance of water and sewage infrastructure for the University
- Designs sewer improvement plans or flood defense programs, and associated structures, such as pumping stations, pipework, and earthworks (the scale may range from an initial outline to a full, detailed design
- Designs pump systems, pipelines, and treatment plants for handling wastewater, or black water as it is known in the industry
- Reviewing technical submissions.
- Liaises with various agencies and individuals, including local authorities, government agencies, clients, contractors, residents, suppliers, technical experts, and consultants to meet work requirements
- Supports other project managers and directors within the department and institution.
- Keeps up to date with environmental matters; being aware of policy and developments.
- Presents technical data or project results, both technical and non-technical.
- Keeps track of the progress of projects from beginning to end - from feasibility to design through to construction and handover (or handling just one section of a large project).
- Ensures work completion by the deadline.
- Supervises the operation and maintenance of water and sewage infrastructure – industrial borehole system and sewer treatment plant.
- Manages staff, including other engineers, technicians, and site workers
- Helps map out drainage systems to deal with water flow
- Work on freshwater supply systems, such as those used for drinking
- Makes reports of time and materials required to repair and maintain equipment and maintain records of operations
- Prepares budgets, orders of supplies and keep daily reports.
- Performs skilled plumbing work in the maintenance, repair, and installation of gas, water, sewer lift stations, water wells, boreholes and irrigation; performs related duties as required.
- Reads blueprints, reviews building plans drawings and specifications to determine the layout of plumbing systems, water supply networks and waste and drainage systems and related materials.
- Plans, installs and services plumbing systems, fixtures, piping equipment and controls used to transport water, waste, gases or hot liquids.
- Provides adequate services will ensure that all water supply networks and waste and drainage systems are installed, repaired and maintained to meet all standards of building codes and safety
- Identifies required tools and special equipment.
- Selects the type and size of pipe required, locate and mark positions for connections and fixtures
- Installs supports and hangers for pipe, fixtures and equipment
- Assembles and install valves and fittings
- Installs, repairs and maintains water treatment equipment, piping and controls, underground storm sanitary and water piping systems, sinks, tubs and toilets, water heaters and other appliances
- Tests pipe systems and fixtures for leaks
- Performs scheduled maintenance service on plumbing systems and fixtures
- Apply all codes to installations, repairs and maintenance
- Ensure all requirements as specified by the manufacturer of systems and fixtures are met
- Ensures all installations, repairs and maintenance are properly sized, aligned, supported, and graded.
- Ensures all installations, repairs and maintenance meet environmental protection requirements
- Administer and schedule work.

Requirements for the Position
- Bachelor's Degree in Water Engineering, Civil Engineering, Physical Science, Geology, Environmental Science, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- At least 5 years professional experience
- Knowledgeable in public health and safety laws.

2.) Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator and Technician
Location: Adamawa
Department: Facilities & Projects Management
Reports to: Director, Facilities & Projects Management
Oversees whom: N/A
Summary of Position
- This is a non-supervisory position which requires technical ability, of which shall contribute to the efficient & effective management of the day-to-day operations in accordance with AUN Policies and Procedures.
- Duties include, but are not limited to, maintaining water pumps, equipment and facilities, collecting samples, performing basic lab testing and other routine plant operations will be required.
- Water treatment plant operator and technician run the equipment, control the processes, and monitor the plants that treat water to make it safe to drink.
- Wastewater treatment plant operator and technician remove pollutants from domestic and industrial waste.
Detailed Listing of Responsibilities
- Add chemicals, such as ammonia or chlorine, to disinfect water or other liquids Inspect equipment on a regular basis
- Monitor operating conditions, meters, and gauges
- Collect and test water and sewage samples
- Record meter and gauge readings and operational data
- Document and report test results to concerned parties.
- Operate equipment to purify and clarify water or to process or dispose of sewage.
- Clean and maintain equipment, tanks, filter beds, and other work areas
- Follow the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA)
- Ensure safety standards are met
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements for the Position
- B.Sc. Engineering, Chemistry or equivalent field with relevant work experience
- Experience with standard techniques and practices for operation and maintenance of various types of water and wastewater systems and plants.
- Proven Ability to work with computer software such as Words, Excel, Internet, Emails
- Hands-on experience is essential - 5 years or above

- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions;

- Ability to attend and understand technical courses;
- Ability to assume responsibility for complete operation of treatment plants;

3.) Executive Assistant
Location: Adamawa
Department: Registrar’s Office
Reports to: Registrar
Oversees whom: N/A
Summary of Position
- The Executive Assistant to the Registrar is charged with the responsibility of providing high-level administrative support services which range from complex to routine, all of which shall contribute to the efficient management of the day-to-day operations in accordance with AUN Policies and Procedures.
- These duties shall include coordinating workflow within the Registry Division, preparing statistical reports, handling information requests, performing clerical functions, preparing correspondence, travels, receiving visitors, arranging conference calls, and scheduling meetings.
- The Executive Assistant shall also relieve the Registrar of administrative detail by setting up a "tickler" system and an “exception reporting" system to handle routine tasks without supervision.
- Also, the Executive Assistant shall routinely re-order office supplies.
Detailed Listing of Responsibilities
- Arrange essential mail in an order of priority for the Registrar
- Check deadlines on incoming requests and put preliminary work in play
- Process replies on own initiative or from the Registrar’s dictation or notes
- Research, draft or abstract reports
- Handle all inquiries professionally and confidentially
- Arrange "call-backs" to protect the Registrar’s time
- Provide back-up materials for call-backs.
- Route calls elsewhere as needed.
- Do phone surveys/inquiries as require
- Maintain calendar; ascertain which events require the Registrar’s attention
- Fix commitments to maximize the Registrar’s time efficiency.
- Prepare agenda for meetings in advance.
- Arrange meeting facilities.
- Act as recording secretary; prepare action minutes.
- As arranged, "rescue” Registrar from laggards.
- Schedule visits away from the Registrar’s area to protect priority/private tasks.
- Arrange travel cash in advance.
- Prepare itinerary, trip file and supplies.
- Prepare expense reports for the Registrar.
- Complete expense reports after every official trip.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements for the Position
- A good First Degree in Management, Sociology or related discipline from a recognized University
- A minimum of three years post NYSC experience working as an Executive Assistant
- Experience of working in an Academic environment is highly beneficial
- Should possess strong organizational and people skills
- Should possess strong written and oral communications skills
- Should be proficient in the use of Information and Communications Technology tools and e-resources.
