About the Scholarship Program
This scholarship is part of a decade-long partnership (2021–2031) between the University of Rwanda and the Mastercard Foundation. The aim? To empower 1,400 young Africans by providing access to higher education and preparing them for meaningful careers.
What sets this program apart is its commitment to inclusive education—with special focus on young women in STEM, persons with disabilities, refugees, and displaced youth.
Who Is Eligible?
To apply for the 2025/2026 intake, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a citizen of Rwanda, any African country, or a refugee/displaced youth living in Africa.
- Be 28 years old or younger (or up to 30 years if you face prolonged life challenges like being a refugee, single mother, or in a child-headed household).
- Have academic qualifications but limited financial means.
- Must have applied to the University of Rwanda and received a UR Reference Number.
- Show strong commitment to leadership, community service, and social impact.
- Refugees or individuals with disabilities must present proof from UNHCR, NCPD, or similar bodies.
Eligible Colleges and Campuses
Successful applicants can pursue undergraduate studies at the following colleges:
- College of Science and Technology
- College of Medicine and Health Sciences
- College of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Sciences
- College of Business and Economics
- College of Education
- College of Arts and Social Sciences
- College of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences
These programs are offered across five campuses: Nyarugenge, Huye, Rukara, Busogo, and Nyagatare.

Step 2: Complete the Scholars Program Application

Step 3: Upload Your Documents
Make sure your documents are:
- In PDF format (under 250 KB each)
- Clearly labeled with your full name and UR Reference Number

Step 4: Submit the Application Before Deadline
The platform allows you to save progress, but ensure everything is submitted before August 22, 2025. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
