Where You fit in

  • The role sits within the Discipline Engineering team of the Deepwater Projects team in Lagos. The Deepwater Projects Lagos organization supports Shell Companies in Nigeria (comprising of SNEPCo, NLNG, SEN, All On, and Daystar Power) by the world-class delivery of Deepwater projects and assets through leveraging the appropriate processes and tools, while developing local Nigerian capability.
  • The services and projects delivered by the Deepwater Projects Lagos organization span the complete E&P lifecycle: concept selection, define/FEED, project execution, commissioning / start-up, and support to operations.
  • This role specifically provides discipline-specific expertise and skills to the Deepwater Projects team in Lagos. Your activities will include the delivery and review of engineering deliverables for the various projects and activities executed within the SNEPCo Deepwater Projects Design office and operations support functions. Your activities may also include periodic provision of engineering solutions and technical calls for the wider Lagos based functions of SCiN - Deepwater Projects being the sole engineering warehouse based in Lagos.

What We Need from You

  • As a Principal PACO engineer, you are expected to provide control and automation solutions and successfully manage assigned Process Automation and Control Optimization (PACO) discipline scope within our projects.
  • Thus to deliver on the role, you will need to have a learner’s mindset and possess strong interpersonal skills i.e., able to influence and develop relationships across various functions and cultures within SCiN.
  • You would also need to be comfortable coaching less experienced colleagues and delivering through others. You would be required to work in line with company guidelines on (i) HSSE and (ii) Ethics & Compliance. You must be also COREN registered or registrable.

Requirements
In addition, you would need the following to be successful in the role:-

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical / Electronic / Instrumentation and Control Engineering or equivalent.

  • Minimum of 12 -15 yrs years post-graduation experience directly related to instrumentation and control in upstream E&P with at least 10 years directly related to Instrumentation, Control and Safeguarding Systems engineering within an upstream Deepwater or similar environment.

Accountabilities

Permit to Work System:

  • As the System Auditor, audit in a systematic manner the application of the permit to work system and advise management and supervision as necessary with regard to compliance
  • Act as Asset Operator under the permit to work system for all lifeboats and escape system facilities, cargo handling and tank management systems. Ensure that all relevant safety equipment and systems are maintained in an operable condition

Administration:

  • Establish and maintain an up-to-date safety library and information system for company procedures and codes of practice.
  • Advise installation management on items arising from safety audits, safety alerts etc, including follow-up action arising from DEn, DoT, HSE and Certifying Authority inspections, that require to be concluded speedily and satisfactorily
  • Provide input to installation job pre-planning through management meetings

Monitoring:

  • Monitor the general state of work sites and safety awareness and behaviour of personnel through systematic auditing, inspection and review of working practices

Safety Meetings:

What We Need From You?

  • Valid STCW95 Deck Officer Class 1 certificate with tanker endorsement. A Deck Officer Class 2 certificate may be acceptable subject to relevant experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years sea time on tankers, including VLCCs.
  • GMDSS qualified
  • The incumbent must be qualified to undertake the duties of a Permit Signatory and System Auditor.
  • Competency in the management of major emergencies and permit to work and work management systems is required.

What are the Roles?
To manage and deploy a team to support the following activities:

  • Custodian of the Marine Logistics Quality Management System, Maritime HSE Case, HRA and ISO14001 Standards.

What we need from you?

  • Valid STCW95 Deck Officer Class 2 certificate with tanker endorsement. A Deck Officer Class 3 certificate may be acceptable subject to relevant experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years sea time on tankers, including VLCCs.
  • Experience in the operation of a crude oil terminal and Single Point Mooring buoys would be an advantage
  • GMDSS qualified
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to work with minimum supervision
