1.) Home Office International Operations Driver

Job Title: Home Office International Operations Driver

Main purpose of Job

  • To provide transport services for Home Office International Operations (HOIO) staff and visitors of the British Deputy High Commission to and from assigned destinations within Lagos and other Nigeria Region in a safe, efficient and courteous manner observing all road traffic rules and post security regulations.
  • Perform administrative duties as may be required to support the effective running of the fleet vehicles and support other HOIO operations as required.

Roles and responsibilities
Transport Services - 60%:

  • Manage transport booking requests and communicate effectively with customers and other stakeholders
  • Drive 1HMG staff and visitors to meetings and functions within Lagos and Nigeria.
  • Conduct Airport runs to pick up/drop off 1HMG staff and visitors. Liaise with Airport officials as necessary.
  • Undertake journeys to other states within Nigeria as necessary.
  • Perform duties in line with post security regulations.
  • Complete accurate journey record sheets for all journeys in official vehicles.

Vehicle Maintenance and Management - 20%:

  • Keep accurate records of vehicle mileage, fuel consumption and maintenance work/costs
  • Perform daily inspections to ensure that all official vehicles are road worthy and in good working order.
  • Wash/Clean official vehicles ensuring they are kept tidy and parked in a secured area.
  • Complete vehicle inspection checklists and promptly report any defects, faults or incidents that occur to the Transport Manager.
  • Check that all vehicle equipment and tools are secured safely and are functioning correctly.
  • Manage a working stock of spares (held in stores with restricted access) for the fleet based in Lagos in line with FCDO/BHC policy.

Administrative Support - 20%:

  • Provide administrative support for the day to day running of the Lagos office.
  • Assist the Deputy Transport Manager/Team Leaders and liaise with other Corporate Services staff based in Lagos as necessary.
  • Update transport related data using Microsoft Office IT systems and maintain other records as may be delegated by the office/transport manager.
  • Maintain adequate records for all the operations of the transport unit required for audit purposes e.g. Journey records, Stores, Vehicle maintenance check lists, Fuel Consumption, etc.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Full valid Nigerian driving licence
  • Must hold a formal qualification in defensive driving and be qualified to drive armoured vehicles
  • Minimum of 3 years verifiable previous driving experience
  • Good working knowledge (and driving experience) of Lagos
  • Basic Computer skills – Microsoft Office tools
  • Must possess minimum of SSCE with 5 credits obtained in one sitting
  • Must be able to relate and speak fluently with locals
  • Must be able to relate and speak English.

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Qualified to drive armoured vehicles.
  • Are currently of have worked as an official employee of a diplomatic mission or NGO/ ex police/ ex military or ex law enforcement.
  • First Aid at Work,
  • Defensive Driver Training.

2.) Electrician

Job Title: Electrician

Location: Abuja FCT

Job Description

  • The electrician must carry out effective day-to-day maintenance work, prepare and file all maintenance reports in accordance with the PCA folder arrangement; interface between the Abuja office and contractors on electrical issues; routine maintenance; preventive maintenance; breakdown maintenance, new installation; and construction works.

Responsibilities

  • To work in accordance with FCDO Standard Operating Procedure and comply with the requirement for electrical installation as stipulated by the IET BS7671 wiring regulation.
  • Organise and file all electrical maintenance reports and checklists in accordance with the FCDO property compliance assessment filing system.
  • Coordinate the activities of contractors working in BHC properties, which includes supervision of all electrical maintenance work, conducting toolbox talk during maintenance and documentation of contractors risks assessment/methods statement RAMS.
  • To raise work requests using fault fixer and monitor the progress of the request.
  • Assist the Technical Works Group (TWG) to attend to work requests on a regular basis as it affects the mission’s operations.
  • Responsible for filing of all electrical maintenance report/checklists, permits and risk assessments, ensuring they are properly documented on a daily basis.
  • Follow FCDO health & safety standards in regular works, also ensuring compliance with all TWG work practices and policies.
  • Assist TWG team to complete planned preventive maintenance (PPM) works and meet deadlines as per the electrical team’s Calendar schedule.
  • Attend to all ad-hoc tasks delegated by the Electrical Technician (LM) and provide relevant updates through weekly report.
  • Carry out daily routine inspections and maintenance of all electrical panels and distribution boards across the Office complex.
  • Conduct routine and corrective maintenance of all small power outlets.
  • Carry out routine Inspection and maintenance of Generators, ATS, Capacitor bank, and LV Stabilisers etc.
  • Carry out routine Inspection and maintenance of building elevators (lift), Fire system and Disable refuge system.
  • Carry out routine Inspection and maintenance of all fan coil units and room thermostats and complete the checklist accordingly.
  • Conduct weekly test on fire alarm and disable refuge system and document the report.
  • Responsible for all Energy Isolation and De-Isolation during maintenance.
  • Read and interpret blueprints or Electrical diagrams.
  • Install and maintain wiring, control, and lighting systems.
  • Install, maintain or repair electrical wiring or equipment.
  • Routine inspection and maintenance of electrical components, such as transformers and circuit breakers.
  • Identify electrical problems with a variety of testing devices.
  • Follow the building regulations based on British standard BS 7671.
  • Execute plans of electrical wiring for well functioning lighting, intercom and other electrical system.
  • Install safety and distribution components such as switches, sensors, resistors, circuit breakers, relays and other electronics components.
  • Prepare and assemble conduits both galvanized and PVC and connect wiring through them.
  • Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair or substitute damaged units.
  • Connect wiring in electrical circuits and networks ensuring compatibility of components.
  • Must be available for callout duties.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in written and spoken communication skills
  • Must hold a National diploma in electrical or Electrical Labour Trade Test 1, 2, & 3 (Ministry of Labour & Productivity Certificate of Competence)
  • Minimum of 5 years experience providing Electrical maintenance and installation services in Multi-complex Office buildings.
  • Possess 2 and 4 wheel vehicle driving license and proficient in driving manual/auto vehicle.
  • Computer literate – Word, Outlook (email) and Excel.
  • Trained Watford 1500kVa Stabiliser maintenance personnel.
  • Experience maintaining MCC panels.

  • Manage the delivery of high quality, efficient and effective maintenance services at the British High Commission office complex, across residential estates and regional posts, to ensure the safety, reliability and operational effectiveness of all generators, control systems and fuel systems in compliance with the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Health and Safety (H&S) requirements, practices and procedures.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage the effective and efficient maintenance of generators, panels, ATI’s and control systems at the Abuja office complex, all compounds across the consolidated residential estates and at regional posts.
  • Ensure adequate coordination and supervision of contractors to execute high quality and standard maintenance on all generators and fuel systems across all British High Commission locations.
  • Ensure proper supervision of contractors to carry out installation and commissioning of new generators across all British High Commission locations in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendation, health & safety requirements and are fully compliant with FCDO Standards.
  • Ensure that all generators, panels, ATI’s, Changeover switches and control systems are kept in good order and are regularly inspected and maintained in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendation, health & safety requirements and are fully compliant with FCDO Standards.
  • Ensure proper documentation and report preparation as regards generator maintenance, condition and status of all generators and control systems at the office complex, across residential estates and regional posts.
  • Ensure effective operation and maintenance of all generators Auto-Refuelling systems.
  • Monitor and document fuel consumption for all generators of the British High Commission across Nigerian network
  • Ensure the provision of all emergencies call out services to generators across the estate.
  • Assist in Property Compliance Assessment (PCA) documentations and updating on to FCDO system.
  • Carry out any other duties as assigned by Building Services Manager.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience 

  • B.Sc. / HND Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Service Engineer capable of working on generators up to 500KVA.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in fault-finding   and servicing of diesel engines and generators.
  • Professionally trained in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Power Electronics systems, Electromechanical / Mechatronic Engineering.
  • Technical understanding of synchronised control systems.
  • Excellent fault finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience working with automatic refuelling systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a flexible and adaptable approach to working.
  • At least an expert knowledge of FG Wilson / CAT Generators especially; 2X06 Electronics Engines, 6000 Series control system, Analogue Control system, ATi/CTi Changeover system, Leroy Somer / Caterpillar / FG Wilson Alternators, Power Wizards Control System, EasyGen Control System and Deep Sea Control System.
  • Understanding of UK Health & Safety regulations
