Job Vacancy at African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) Ghana for Research Analyst – Youth, Employment and Skills

Reporting to the Head of the Youth, Employment and Skills (YES) team, the Research Analyst (RA) will conduct research, support program activities, business development, and other activities that the YES team engages in within the program. The focus of these activities will be on using analysis to generate research products on youth and demographics, employment in the context of the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) and key skill development mechanisms to enable Africa to move towards a 4IR-ready labour force. These research products can then provide the analytical underpinning for the YES team’s advisory engagements with government agencies and other stakeholders, and can also provide inputs into ACET’s broader advocacy platforms such as the Africa Transformation Forum (ATF) and PACT.

Specifically, the RA will:

  • Research key Youth, Employment and Skills areas such as secondary education and TVET.
  • Keep up to date with emerging trends in relation to education systems and the labour market.
  • Contribute to the YES Work Plans for the ACET Team and Research Partners
  • Serve as the coordinator for the YES PACT platform
  • Work with the ACET Programme Manager to develop project budgets
  • Coordinate ACET YES events with support from the events and communications teams in ACET
  • Create databases and write computer programmes for their easy retrieval and display
  • Conduct statistical analysis
  • Develop client presentations and other written deliverables
  • Any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time in support of ACET’s mission

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Education and Experience 

  • Master’s degree in Economics or related field. Being a labour economist will be an asset
  • At least two years’ experience working on youth employment programmes
  • Experience as a research analyst will be an advantage

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Good knowledge of youth employment issues and good understanding of economic fundamentals
  • Very good analytical and writing skills
  • Familiarity with basis statistical analysis
  • Ability to prepare decent reports, policy briefs, blogs, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work without supervision
  • Basic project management skills
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good computer programming and database management skills including proficiency in STATA
  • Good presentation skills.
