1.) Food Technologist
2.) Nutritionist
3.) IT Assistant

1.) Food Technologist

 

JOB PURPOSE:

• Under the overall supervision of the Deputy Country Director in Accra, the Food Technologist will be expected to perform the following duties:






MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead the implementation of food safety and quality management initiatives within the Ghana CO and support regional initiatives.
• Establish and implement protocols and tools relating to food technology issues, such as food safety and quality and food product optimization, ensuring alignment with WFP procurement and supply chain strategy, policies and plans.
• Review and provide advice on the procedures for mitigating and documenting food quality and safety issues.
• Provide technical guidance and input to Ghana country office in the design and implementation of medium scale and/or relatively straight forward food assistance programmes, ensuring compliance with WFP food and safety regulations.
• Develop and deliver training modules to WFP staff and external stakeholders on the key areas of food technology, such as quality control, food processing, loss prevention and mitigation, to build local capacity in the processing and/or production of specialized nutritious foods.
• Build productive relationships and partnerships with counterparts in UN agencies, NGOs, governments and the private sector to enhance WFP capacity to respond effectively to levels of under nutrition.
• Provide technical guidance and input to counterparts in UN agencies, NGOs, governments and the private sector in the design and implementation of food technology related development initiatives.
• Keep current on emerging developments and cutting-edge research on the areas of food safety and quality and/or food product optimization in order to leverage the opportunities to incorporate industry best practices.
• Perform any other duties as provided from time to time.

Qualification Required & Experience

• Advanced university degree in Food Technology, Health Sciences, Food Control, Nutrition or other related field, or First degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.
• Language: Fluency (level C) in English language and the duty station’s language, if different






Desired Experiences for Entry into the role:

• A minimum of three years of postgraduate professional progressive experience in nutrition Public Health Nutrition, or related field
• Has experience implementing food technology related tools and protocol.
• Has experience working on food assistance programs development projects.
• Act as a mentor to junior staff.

2.) Nutritionist

 

JOB PURPOSE:

• Under the overall supervision of the Head of Nutrition in Accra, the Nutritionist will be expected to perform the following duties:

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Facilitate the establishment of the SUN Business Network and work with the private sector to reinforce promotion of healthy diets as part of the overall nutrition strategy
• Closely work with the Supply Chain unit to identify and implement market development strategies to address bottlenecks in the nutritious food supply chain including for voucher programmes.
• Support creation of consumer-driven demand for healthy diets including fortified foods.
• Support the nutrition integration programming by ensuring effective linkages with the social protection and food systems pillars.
• Provide project management support to specific and defined nutrition projects and activities as may be required, ensuring a coordinated approach with wider programmes that complies with WFP standards and procedures.
• Liaise with cooperating partners to monitor ongoing projects, ensuring effective collaboration, timeliness, and efficiency, and highlight potential risks to project delivery
• Contribute to the development of nutrition projects and activities, plans and processes, ensuring alignment with wider nutrition policies and guidance.
• Support the capacity building of WFP staff, partners, and national government to prepare for and respond to nutrition needs, for example the production and review of training materials.
• Prepare regular progress reports and contribute to preparation of corporate and donor reports.
• Perform other tasks as required.

Qualification Required & Experience

Minimum Academic Qualifications

• Advanced University degree in Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, or related field.






Desired Experiences for Entry into the role:

• A minimum of three years of postgraduate professional progressive experience in nutrition Public Health Nutrition, or related field.
• Experience working with governments on developing nutrition policies and/or implementing a nutrition programme (within food security or health).
• Experience working with the private sector to promote nutrition
• Experience in implementing Social and Behaviour Change interventions
• Experience in managing government and non-government partnerships

3.) IT Assistant

 

Job Summary

• Under the overall supervision of the UNHRD Manager, the IT Operations Assistant will be expected to perform the following duties:

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Carry out system maintenance tasks, such as performing monitoring tasks, running system diagnostics, and system optimization, to ensure they are running effectively and enable easy and efficient use
• Maintain technology, including standard repairs, configuration, and storage, in accordance with data security and access controls to ensure IT equipment required for staff is available.
• Prepare files and systems for inventory and archives, such as website content and directories, to ensure information is accurate and up to date.
• Allocate tasks to other colleagues, ensuring that tasks are delivered to agreed standards and deadlines, to support the effective delivery of IT services.
• Respond to a variety of queries about technology and IT systems to assist staff to deliver their services.
• With support of senior colleagues, provide standard IT training to end users of technology and systems to ensure staff use standard technology and systems effectively.
• Perform routine deployments of server hardware and software, including testing and the identification of problems, to contribute to the effective functioning of technology, in accordance with WFP Corporate standard rules, policies and ICT directives.
• Responsible for maintaining information records such as updating web pages and statistical databases to ensure the information is current and well organized.
• Install, operate, and maintain telecommunications systems and equipment, to ensure optimal services in compliance with standards operations procedures.
• Support the development of standard material such as training documentation and web content on behalf of senior officers, to ensure staff have access to required information about IT services and products.
• Suggest improvements to methods and processes to support the continuous improvement of IT services.
• Support the coordination of new application implementation to provide staff with the tools they need to perform effectively.
• Provide backstopping support for WFP Ghana Country Office in the absence of Country Office IT Officer.
• Perform other related duties as required.






Qualification Required & Experience

• A minimum of first degree in Computer Science, or any other related qualification. A Master’s degree in the above related field is an added advantage.

Desired Experiences for Entry into the role:

• A minimum of four years of progressive work experience in supporting role in IT.
• Has experience resolving more complex technical issues.
• Has worked with head of units in defining requirements for functional area.
• Has experience with the application of client services standards to resolve or escalate clients’ service problems.

Language: Fluency and Good Command of the English language is essential.
