Ghana Institute of Journalism is recruiting to fill the following positions:

1.) Lecturer
2.) Legal Counsel

   

 

Ghana Institute of Journalism is a public university that provides specialized education in journalism and communication studies. GIJ is the first school of journalism established in Sub-Saharan Africa and has focused on journalism and communication education for sixty years.

1.) Lecturer

  • Job Type: Full Time
  • Qualification: BA/BSc/HND
  • Location: Accra
  • Job Field: Education / Teaching 
  •  The successful candidate will be required to teach courses at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and offer academic counselling and leadership to students

Qualification Required & Experience

  •  Possess a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD/DPhil) in Communication or a closely related academic area
  •  Must have some professional experience in the specific area
  •  Must have taught for a minimum of 3 years in a higher education institution
  •  Demonstrate interest in research and publishing

2.) Legal Counsel

  • Job Type: Full Time
  • Qualification: BA/BSc/HND
  • Location: Accra
  • Job Field: Law / Legal 

 A person seeking appointment as a Legal Counsel must be an individual who understands the university environment and the management of higher education in Ghana as well as higher education laws and national policies

Specific roles

  •  Head of the Legal Department of the Institute
  •  Serve as a the Chief legal adviser of the institute
  •  Act for the institute on all legal matters
  •  Vet and review all agreements and contracts of the institute
  •  Draft, review and interpret all agreements involving or concerning the institute
  •  Ensure that the institute complies with all national legislayion and regulations on higher education
  •  Liaise with external solicitors where required
  •  Assist in the conduct of all disciplinary processes in the institute
  •  Attend committee and other meetings as designated
  •  Represent or ensure appropriate representation in all dispute resolution proceedings
  •  Conduct all external relations that have legal implications on behalf of the institute
  •  Discharge any other assignments that shall be deemed necessary for the legal department to perform

Qualification Required & Experience

  •  Must possess a minimum of LLM from a recognized University
  •  Be at least 8 years at the BAR and a member of the Ghana Bar Association
  •  Have a minimum of 5 years working experience. (Experience in a higher education environment will be an added advantage)
  •  Have strong administrative and managerial competence
  •  Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  •  Be computer literate
