About the Hyundai Motor Group Scholarship

This scholarship is a joint initiative between Hyundai Motor Group and SOAS University of London, designed to support emerging African leaders who are committed to addressing global sustainability challenges. By investing in higher education, Hyundai aims to equip the next generation of changemakers with the knowledge and network needed to make a meaningful impact across Africa.

As part of this program, master’s students may also be eligible to apply for a Junior Internship Program at SOAS, designed to provide real-world exposure alongside academic training.

Eligible Schools

  • College of Development, Economics and Finance
  • College of Law, Anthropology and Politics

Eligible Programs

  • Any full-time one-year Master’s program beginning in the 2025/26 academic year
  • Any full-time MPhil/PhD research program starting in the same session

Note: Part-time and two-year Master’s programs are not eligible for this scholarship.

What the Scholarship Covers

For Master’s Students:

  • Full tuition fees
  • Remaining balance from the £27,730 total award is paid as a living stipend

For PhD Students:

  • Full tuition coverage for three years
  • Writing-up fee covered in the fourth year
  • Annual stipend of £22,780, disbursed in termly payments

  • Invitations to Hyundai-led networking events and seminars
  • Opportunities for post-graduation alumni engagement
  • Eligibility to apply for the SOAS Junior Internship Program

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for the Hyundai Motor Group Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a national of an African country and currently reside in Africa
  • Be classified as an international student (paying international tuition fees)
  • Be a new applicant for a Master’s or PhD program starting in 2025/26

Academic Requirements:

For Master’s Applicants:

  • A First-Class Honours degree (or top-tier equivalent) is preferred
  • A 2:1 classification may be considered, but with lower priority

For PhD Applicants:

  • Must hold or expect a Distinction-level Master’s degree
  • Applicants with a Merit may apply but are not prioritized

Other Key Requirements:

  • Submit an application to a relevant program at SOAS University of London
  • Meet English language requirements by the scholarship review stage
  • Hold an unconditional offer before final scholarship decisions are made

Important Dates

Application Deadline:

  • 25 April 2025 by 12:00 pm (midday UK local time)

Offer Requirement:

  • Applicants must have an unconditional offer when the scholarship panel meets, around June 2025

Notification of Results:

  • Successful candidates will be contacted in June 2025
  • All applicants will be notified once the selection process is complete
