What Is the Doucet Scholarship?

The Doucet Scholarship is a fully funded research program hosted by the Max Planck Institute in Frankfurt. It supports early-stage researchers, particularly those from Latin American countries, who are working on themes tied to colonial law. This will be the eighth edition of the scholarship and includes a three-month research residency at the Institute from January 5 to March 31, 2026.

Scholarship Benefits

Selected scholars will receive the following support:

  • Monthly stipend: €1,365 for the full 3-month stay
  • Travel reimbursement:
    • Up to €1,500 for flights from Latin America or other transatlantic locations
    • Up to €750 for flights within Europe
  • Accommodation option: Scholars can rent a room at the Institute’s residence
    • Estimated cost: €680 per full month

Eligible Research Topics

Applicants should submit a well-defined research proposal that aligns with one of the following areas:

  • The legal history of colonialism
  • Topics directly related to the materials found in the Doucet Collection
