🇨🇦 All Set: Opening of the 2024 Canada Caregiver Program Scheduled for January 1

On the first day of the new year, January 1, 2024, at precisely 9 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST), Canada will commence accepting new applications for its renowned caregiver pilot programs – the Home Child Care Provider Pilot and the Home Support Worker Pilot.

For the year 2024, these two esteemed pilot initiatives are set to open their doors to a combined total of 5,500 fresh applications. This marks a significant opportunity for those aspiring to embark on a caregiving career in Canada.

In a notable update to these programs, the applicant quota has now been categorized into two distinct segments: one for individuals directly seeking permanent residency and the other for those aspiring to accumulate relevant Canadian work experience.

Exploring the Caregiver Pilot Programs

These programs, each spanning five years, offer a pathway for qualified caregivers and their families to migrate to Canada with an end goal of acquiring permanent residency.

To be eligible for either of these programs, applicants must secure a job offer from a Canadian household. Notably, there is no requirement for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) in this process.

Upon receiving a valid job offer, eligible candidates can apply for a work permit that is restricted to a specific occupation. This permits them to travel to Canada and engage in temporary employment to garner the necessary experience.




After accumulating two years of relevant experience, these applicants can then proceed to apply for permanent residency.

Eligibility Criteria and Qualification Standards

If you have received a job offer as a caregiver in Canada or have previous experience in a caregiving role within the country, you might be eligible to apply for permanent residence through one of these pilot programs.

Required Work Experience

Qualifying work experience includes full-time roles in Canada within specific National Occupational Classification (NOC) categories:

  • Home Child Care Provider (NOC 44100):
    • The caregiving must occur in your own home or your employer’s private residence.
    • Settings like daycares or institutional environments are not considered.
    • Living with your employer is not a prerequisite.
    • Experience as a foster parent does not qualify.
  • Home Support Worker (NOC 44101):
    • Your role must involve caring for an individual requiring home support in the employer’s private residence.
    • Work in institutional settings such as nursing homes is excluded.
    • Residency at the employer’s home is not mandatory.
