1.) Radio Operator Supervisor

 

Location: Abuja

Position Details

  • Under the supervision of the ICT Coordinator 2 in Abuja, the Radio Operator Supervisor ensures the delegation’s radio room functions without interruption 24hours daily and plays a role in security procedures.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Independently operates all machines for voice and for data communication.
  • Supervises radio and telecommunication and facilitates contacts and permanent field follow-up according to internal guidelines
  • Manages and supervises radio operation schedule and shifts
  • Follows up on all work-related messages and correspondence with the relevant contacts and departments
  • Regularly and promptly treats triggered Panic/SOS alarms, distress calls, validates them and ensures the appropriate assistance is given.
  • Consistently goes through the movement plans and daily staff location template daily and promptly corrects all irregularities, omission, and inconsistencies.
  • Ensures all movements are registered in the logbook / Field Mobile Log database
  • Makes sure that all mobiles arrive at their destination and waits until confirmation comes.
  • Informs the management immediately in case of unusual contacts
  • Proactively maintains information flow on security-related issues.
  • Updates lists of field movements, messages transmitted, etc.
  • Conduct periodic equipment inspections and routine tests to ensure that operations standards are met.
  • Broadcast information concerning security alert locally, using relevant means (VHF, SMS, or phones).
  • Attending to Telephone calls during the night times, public holidays, and other times of absence of the Switchboard operators. Testing telephone lines and reporting any faults to the ICT Helpdesk.

Education and Experience Required

  • University Degree in Accounting or any relevant field
  • 3 years’ work experience in a similar field
  • Good command of spoken and written English
  • Very good computer literacy.

2.) Radio Operator

 

Location: Maiduguri, Borno

Position Details

  • Under the supervision of the Radio Operator Supervisor, the Radio Operator operates the ICRC’s telecommunications equipment.
  • He maintains radio contact and telecommunications between sites, vehicles, and people so that the sub-delegation can follow field movements in accordance with its programme and with security rules.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Independently operates all machines for voice and for data communication.
  • Operates all types of radio (VHF, HF) including phone/satellite equipment for voice and data communication
  • Facilitates radio and telecommunication contacts and maintains a permanent field follow-up according to internal guidelines.
  • Respects international and national radio procedures when contacting other stations.
  • Immediately shares with management any information that can affect the operational activities of the ICRC.
  • Registers and treat incoming and outgoing information, confidentially, rapidly and with accuracy
  • Is responsible for ensuring that the correct languages are used when working with all types of radios
  • Selects the most efficient means of communication (inside and outside the ICRC) taking into account speed and cost
  • Keeps record and tracks of satellite equipment, portable radios and other equipment in the Radio Room and ensures that they are constantly in good working condition
  • Is responsible for HF/VHF radios and satellite phones and issues them to field officers when needed
  • Reports all faults or irregularities relating to the efficient functioning of the Radio Room and/or the equipment to the Radio Operator Supervisor or the ICT Department.
  • Ensures constant contact with people moving in the field and takes appropriate action as stipulated under security rules and internal guidelines
  • Updates lists of field movements, messages transmitted, etc.
  • Acts quickly in the event of an emergency and contact relevant managements to contain and help solve critical incidents
  • Maintains a detailed incident log for security reports and proactively maintains information flow on security-related matters, forwarding to the management regular security reports.
  • Obtains security clearance for field trips and ensures strict adherence to the relevant movement plans.
  • Ensures all movements are registered in the Field mobile log database.
  • May be asked to perform tasks not covered in this job description, to provide support to other departments and replace other colleagues within the ICT department when necessary.

Education and Experience Required

  • Minimum of Secondary Education.
  • Diploma in ICT or Electronic, additional vocational training in electronics, telecommunication, IT or similar field will be an asset.
  • Experience in communications/Radio operations within NGO’s or similar function preferably with an international organization.

Desired Profile and Skills:

  • Good knowledge of radio (HF & VHF) technology and satellite communication.
  • Excellent knowledge of the geographically assigned environment Basic mechanical skills.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and knowledge of local languages is an asset
  • Very good knowledge of Windows based computers.

3.) Addressing Sexual Violence Field Officer

Job Description

  • Under the direct supervision of Sexual Violence Operations Manager, the Addressing Sexual Violence Field Officer is expected to support the integration of sexual violence prevention, risk mitigation and response across all areas of ICRC’s operations, including, but not limited to, health, protection, economic security, prevention, and communication.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports programmatic analysis and strategic thinking relevant to ICRC sexual violence prevention and response, including e.g., data compilation and analysis, and the design and implementation of activities.
  • Implements and can take a lead role in following up on various delegation and field level activities, e.g., developing and delivering training, and documenting the humanitarian consequences of conflict/other situations of violence on the civilian population and allegations of violations of international humanitarian / human rights law.
  • Participates in and may sometimes independently hold internal and external meetings about ICRC work on addressing sexual violence, including with communities, authorities, weapon bearers etc.
  • Reports on relevant activities, such as field assignments, internal written reports, and periodic evaluation of the ICRC’s action on sexual violence.
  • Works as a team member, including undertaking other tasks (e.g., administrative, logistical, finance-related) to support the team, acting as an interpreter for colleagues, advises team members regarding cultural and socio-economically relevant issues, and fosters a conducive environment.
  • May be asked to perform tasks not covered in this job description and to provide support to other departments when necessary.

Education and Experience Required

  • University Degree in Law, Human Rights, Gender Studies, or similar area of study
  • At least 5 years of professional experience
  • 3-4 years of protection work, or in a similar field or a similar organization
  • Proven experience in data compilation and analysis, capacity building, reporting, and external representation
  • Proven experience in managing projects/activities

Desired Profile and Skills:

  • Fluent in written and spoken English and knowledge of local languages is an asset
  • Computer literacy; proficient in Microsoft Office software skills (outlook, Excel PowerPoint, Word).
  • Develops and maintains a pleasant and conducive working environment with colleagues and line managers
  • Performs all duties with the highest level of confidentiality in the interest of the employees and the ICRC.
