University of Manchester Scholarships 2023: The University of Manchester known for research and academic excellence is pleased to announce the award of scholarships to international students in several disciplines ranging from sciences, engineering, medical science and the humanities.

The scholarship seeks to provide financial support to over 100 international students who are self-funded.  Applicants are to note that the scholarships are competitive and will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence.

Faculties and Schools in the University have developed a range of subject-specific schemes to support their students. The following scholarships are available for international students:

  • The Manchester Science and Engineering International Excellence Scholarships

The scholarship is open to all international fee paying, self-funded students and will be considered based on their UCAS application. There are 20 competitive awards of £3,000 per year for up to four years of study.

  • The Morton Award for International Excellence

The Morton Award for International Excellence is awarded to international students in Chemical Engineering and Analytical Science who are self-funded. Competitive awards of £3,000 per year, for up to four years of study will be awarded to the highest performing applicants.

  • Pharmacy International Bursary

The pharmacy award is £2,000 per year for overseas students who are self-funded. For more information, applicants can contact ug.pharmacy@manchester.ac.uk

  • Optometry International Bursary 

The optometry award is for international students with passion for optometry and the value is £2,000 per year. Applicants can contact ug.optometry@manchester.ac.uk for more information.

  • Psychology International Bursary 

The merit-based bursary is awarded to five international students who have been accepted onto the three-year Psychology programme valued at £2,000 per year. For more information contact ug.psychology@manchester.ac.uk

  • School of Biological Sciences Excellence Scholarship

Overseas students with an offer to study any one of the undergraduate programmes in the School of Biological Sciences are awarded £2,000 per year. For more information contact ug.biosciences@manchester.ac.uk

  • School of Biological Sciences Foundation Year Bursary

The award of £14,750 are awarded to overseas students with an offer to study the Biosciences Foundation Year. This bursary is for the Foundation Year only. For more information contact ug.biosciences@manchester.ac.uk

  • Outstanding Academic Achievement Awards

The University awards £1,000 to approximately the top 0.5% of undergraduate students at graduation each year. Nominations are made by Departments, for further information email: fse-scholarships@manchester.ac.uk

  • BP Achievement Awards

The award of £1,000 per year is given to first and second-year undergraduate students in the following discipline areas: Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth and Environmental Sciences (including Geology), Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics.

Students on relevant courses are invited to write a 1,000-word essay on a specific subject. There are up to three awards available per Department and year. Email and poster publicity is normally launched in December with a closing date in February. Students are selected on the basis of their entry qualifications / first-year examination results and the content of their application/essay.   • BP Stem Scholarships

First year undergraduate students are awarded £3,000 per year in the following discipline areas: Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Earth and Environmental Sciences (including Geology), Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics and Astronomy.

Students on relevant courses are invited to apply to BP online (normally in November of their first year). Students are selected on the basis of their applications, online tests and an interview.   • International Excellence Undergraduate Scholarships

Well qualified international students are awarded £2,000 per year for any undergraduate degree course within the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

  • Indian Excellence Scholarships

Three Indian students who demonstrate excellent levels of attainment while studying the International Baccalaureate are awarded £80,000. The highest ranked student will receive £40,000 payable as £10,000 per year, for up to four years of study. Two students will receive awards of £20,000 each payable as £5,000 per year, for up to four years of study.

  • William Boyd Dawkins Scholarships

The award of £1,000 is given to students who achieve AAA at A-level (or equivalent). To be eligible, offer holders will need to have put the University as their firm choice. Successful recipients will receive a one-off payment of £1,000 during their first year of study. For more information email: ug-earth-sci@manchester.ac.uk.

  • Materials Science and Engineering Programmes

Outstanding home and international applicants for all Materials Science and Engineering Programmes will be eligible for an automatic Department of Materials and Faculty scholarship with a total value of £5,000 if they achieve A*A*A* grades at A-level (or equivalent) or £3,000 if they achieve grades A*A*A at A level (or equivalent).   • International Mathematics Scholarship

All new international students who satisfy the mathematical component of their entrance requirement are awarded £1,000. The award, which lasts as long as your undergraduate degree, whether that is three or four years, is paid automatically in the first year; after that payment is subject to you maintaining at least a 65% exam average. All international students will be considered automatically for this scholarship and need not apply for it. We’ll notify you of your eligibility for the International Mathematics Scholarship as soon as we know whether you satisfy the entrance requirements.

  • International Mathematical Excellence Scholarship

These excellence scholarships provide funding of up to £2,000  for one academic year and are awarded to the best students each year, the decision being based on the previous years’ exam results. For more information email: ug-maths@manchester.ac.uk

  • Physics Success Scholarship

The award of £2,000, payable during the first year of the course for international students who have demonstrated academic excellence in their examinations. For more information email: ug-physics@manchester.ac.uk

  • National Instruments Engineering Scholarship Programme

The award provides a paid internship and the possibility of further work to first-year undergraduate students studying relevant subjects.

  • Power Academy Engineering Scholarships

The award comes with an IET membership, a bursary, contribution towards tuition fees and books/software and professional development training for BEng/MEng students with high grades studying electrical and power engineering. For more information email: poweracademy@theiet.org.

  • Institution of Mechanical Engineers Scholarships

  • The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET)

The award provides funding up to £3,000 per year for students about to commence any IET accredited MEng or BEng degree course and expected to achieve a minimum of three Bs at A level (or equivalent). For more information visit the IET website.

  • Alliance Manchester Business School

  • Manchester Law Scholars Award

The award provides up to 25% of the annual undergraduate overseas tuition fee. Overseas students enrolling for a full-time undergraduate degree in the Department of Law and paying overseas tuition fees. To be considered for the University of Manchester Scholarships 2023, applicants are to meet the following conditions:

  • Applicants must be international students who are self-funded enrolled in an eligible course at the University.
