What is the University of Twente Scholarship (UTS)?

The University of Twente Scholarship (UTS) is a merit-based financial award designed to support academically outstanding students from non-EU/EER countries. The scholarship not only helps cover your educational expenses but also provides an exclusive chance to join one of the university’s renowned Honours Programmes, such as:

  • Research Honours
  • Design Honours
  • Change Leaders

With up to 50 scholarships available, recipients can receive financial assistance ranging from €3,000 to €22,000 for one academic year.

Benefits of the UTS

  1. Generous Financial Support: Award amounts range between €3,000 and €22,000, easing the financial burden of tuition and study-related expenses.
  2. Additional Funding for Two-Year Programmes: Students enrolled in two-year Master’s programmes may qualify for a second-year scholarship of equal value, provided they meet academic requirements.
  3. Kipaji Scholarship Opportunity: UTS recipients may also be eligible for the Kipaji Scholarship, which requires a separate application. To apply, indicate your interest in your motivation letter.

Who Can Apply?

To qualify for the UTS, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Non-EU/EER Student Status: This scholarship is exclusively available to non-EU/EER students.
  • Admission to a Master’s Programme: You must have a (provisional) admission letter for a qualifying Master’s programme starting in September 2025.
  • Valid Student Number: A student number from the University of Twente is required.
  • English Proficiency: Demonstrate language skills with an Academic IELTS score of 6.5 (minimum 6.0 in speaking) or a TOEFL iBT score of 90 (minimum 20 in speaking).
  • Outstanding Academic Record: Applicants should rank among the top 5–10% of their graduating class.
  • Visa Requirements: Meet the Dutch visa regulations, if applicable.
  • No Previous Graduation: Applicants should not have graduated from any University of Twente programme.

Note: The scholarship is not available for EU/EER students, pre-Master’s programme students, or those in the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC).
