Saitama University’s Graduate School of Science and Engineering invites applications for the MEXT 2025 Scholarship. As part of the International Graduate Program, this scholarship supports exceptional doctoral candidates in Engineering and Science fields through the Energy System-Information Technology Innovation International Professional Program (ESITI).

The MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology) Scholarship offers full financial support to selected students:

  • Full coverage of application, admission, and tuition fees.
  • A monthly stipend of 145,000 yen, with an additional 3,000 yen for regional allowance.
  • Round-trip airfare between the recipient’s home country and Japan.
  • Scholarship duration of up to three years, contingent on academic performance.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Hold a Master’s degree by the time of enrollment.
  • Be a citizen of a country with diplomatic relations with Japan.
  • Be under 35 years old as of April 1, 2025 (born on or after April 2, 1990).
  • Demonstrate strong academic performance.
  • Show English proficiency (minimum TOEFL iBT score of 72 or IELTS 5.5).
  • Be in good health and residing outside Japan at the time of application, without Japanese nationality.
  • Be able to arrive in Japan by late September 2025.

Application Process

To apply for the MEXT Scholarship via Saitama University’s ESITI Program, please follow these steps:

  1. Document Submission: Submit all required documents by email to the Foreign Student Office at rese@gr.saitama-u.ac.jp. Afterward, send a hard copy via international postal service.
    • Required documents include:

      • Research Plan (Form B)
      • Academic certificates
      • Proof of English proficiency
      • Recommendation letters
  2. Evaluation Process: Shortlisted candidates will be invited for online interviews and may also need to complete a mathematics assessment if required by the supervisor.
  3. Final Selection: Nominees are submitted to MEXT for final approval.
