1.) Civil Engineer

 

ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

• The role is accountable for the management, supervision, and control of all concrete and earthworks in all areas of underground and surface infrastructure.
• The role is accountable for the implementation and supervision of construction, specifications, standards, and safe workmanship to ensure the timely completion of the works

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Review, approve, and sign-off the detailed execution plan and schedule, infrastructure detailed design requirements, detailed testing plans, operational commissioning plans, handover plans, training plans, manuals, records, drawings, specifications, and documents issued.
• Deliver infrastructure requirements consistent with the procurement and contracting strategy, which addresses the construction time, cost, and quality risks.
• Lead a team of design engineers to specify, design, analyze and verify new components and systems.
• Ensure cost impacts in area of accountability are evaluated, approved and budget is revised
• Review the application of safety standards and work practices for the refurbishment construction and mining workforce to enable the safety targets to be managed and achieved.
• Oversee all relevant inspections and testing procedures to ensure quality and/or performance is in line with specifications, designs, and requirements.
• Review and provide feedback regarding contractor's progress claims and invoice.
• Advise progress and KPI status in a timely manner to the management team, particularly potential cost, and schedule or quality variances.
• Prepare weekly, monthly reporting to produce accurate and timely information that can clearly convey the status of safety, cost, schedule, and quality for the construction works.
• Participate in formal cost and schedule reviews to support accurate and timely reporting.
• Oversee the Requests for Information (RFI) and Technical Query (TQ) process. Keep and maintain a register.
• Contribute to the Project risk register as required.
• Establish KPl's for construction activities and schedule weekly progress measurement
• Proactively control the construction activities to avoid potential project cost and schedule overruns. Communicate accurate and timely construction schedule delivery, progress, cost, and quality.

• Ensure monitoring and data collection to demonstrate execution of the construction works on all phases of the works in accordance with the Government of Ghana conditions of approvals and the site's Environmental Management Plan
• Support interface management for construction and refurbishment works
• Maintain meeting records, agreed actions, and follow up to ensure actions are completed
• Verify that the construction production daily targets are within the approved project schedule, achieving all critical intermediate milestones and targets.
• Inspect and review site safety management implementation to comply with the Safety Management System.
• Identify, communicate, and implement potential cost reduction initiatives
• Work compliantly with the requirement of government of Ghana agencies, environmental, health and safety legislation and AGAG regulations

Qualification Required & Experience

• Minimum of bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering

Experience

• An experienced Civil Engineer with 7+ years' experience in preferably, civil and earthworks construction.
• Experience in Project Management
• Experience in HSE
• Experience in QA/QC Management

Legal Requirement

• Professional Certified Engineer with a relevant certification body

Technical Competencies

• Sound project management skills
• Experience in Project Management
• Excellent skills in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Project, and Excel
• Familiarity with design software, such as Autodesk, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D
• Excellent time management skills to ensure project deadlines are met.

2.) Backfill Engineer

 

ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

To implement, monitor and co-ordinate the backfill requirements for the mine in line with the established mine plan

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Establish the necessary Backfill Engineering processes and practices for the redevelopment of the Obuasi Mine, including Operational Readiness
• Provide unequivocal Backfill Engineering planning data to enable the monthly updates of the rolling quarterly plan to be produced on time.
• Develop the quarterly Backfill Engineering cost centre budget to achieve the required targets for achieving annual business plans
• Deliver the work of the Backfill Engineering function within approved budget targets and specified timeframes, costs and related KPIs
• Demonstrate Safety Leadership and improve the Culture across the Backfill Engineering department regarding Safety, Health, Environmental and Sustainable Development
• Provide the resources and expertise to develop the team to capably and consistently deliver the annual budget, according to their role and level of authority
• Rigorously drive implementation of projects and nurture and sustain a culture of Accountability and Continuous Improvement within the Backfill Engineering team

Qualification Required & Experience

• BSc. Mining / Civil Engineering Degree or equivalent

Experience

• Three (3) years' operational experience within an underground mining environment of which at least two (2) years is backfill systems based;
• Demonstrated experience with knowledge of fundamental underground backfill mechanics;
• Proficient in the use of Mining Software;
• Proficient in the management and control of underground backfill operations across a range of fill types;
• Excellent Communication Skills.

3.) Concrete Technologist

 

ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

• The role is accountable for set-up of a standard concrete laboratory as well as supervision of concrete QA/QC laboratory and field-testing program in all areas of underground and surface infrastructure.
• Also accountable for the implementation and supervision of construction, specifications, standards, and safe workmanship to ensure the timely completion of the works.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Prepare Concrete cubes Test Reports including registers and graphs
• Record daily concrete test, weather, and cube bath temperature.
• Sample, prepare, and test Concrete Cubes including Slumps
• Prepare grading analysis for the aggregates. (Sand and Stones)
• Label cubes for correct identification and samples traceability
• Report and give detail information of all materials used for testing
• Deliver infrastructure requirements consistent with the procurement and contracting strategy, which addresses the construction time, cost, and quality risks.
• Identify construction deviations/non-conformances and report to both COW-QA/QC and Civil engineer as well as Contractor for inclusion into the non-conformance register (NCR).
• Refer to plans and keep a construction photograph record of work, along with measurements and samples
• Ensure that building regulations, health and safety, legal and environmental requirements are met
• Create and maintain a dossier as part of the MDR for the construction installation, testing and commissioning ready for handover to Operations.
• Participate in the walkdowns of construction complete infrastructures with the COW -QA/QC.

• Must have good understanding in Grading Analysis for the Aggregates.
• Must have a wide understanding in Slump Testing.
• Must be proficient or experience in Most of the Testing apparatus and other machines for Testing Concrete.
• Must be able to produce workable and good Concrete Mix Designs
• Must have good understanding of the ISO 9001 Management Systems

Technical Competencies

• Excellent time management skills to ensure project deadlines are met

4.) Geotechnical Engineer

 

ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

To coordinate and implement geotechnical systems and processes to ensure stability of mine excavations, whilst delivering on the business objectives / targets. To mitigate geotechnical risk by identifying geotechnical hazards and advising appropriate actions.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Establish the necessary foundation for the redevelopment of the Obuasi Mine, and being operationally ready
• Implement suitable systems and procedures to ensure an effective and efficient implementation of the Rock Engineering/Backfill strategies and programs
• Coordinate internal stakeholder relationships and value with relevant management routines (communication, touchpoints, key meetings)
• Implement geotechnical programmes
• Provide unequivocal Geotechnical planning data to enable the quarterly updates of the rolling 12-month plan to be produced on time.
• Implement geotechnical data aligned to defined quality assurance expectations

5.) Fire and Rescue Brigadesman

 

ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT

• The purpose of this role is to support the Emergency Management Services Superintendent in taking proactive measures to minimize the frequency of emergency situations in the mine and then responding to emergency operations on both surface and underground.
• It further seeks to augment the labour strength of the Emergency response team across the operations and satisfies the requirement of Fire and Rescue Brigades in the Minerals and Mining Regulations, 2012 LI2182 section 548.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Assist in responding to all emergency operations on both surface and underground at all times.
• Assist in conducting planned inspection & audits using checklist periodically, aimed at evaluating compliance with standards and checking the state of all escape routes and refuge chambers.
• Assist in conducting planned inspections and audits on all firefighting and fire detection appliances on both surface and underground. The inspections shall cover portable fire extinguishers, automatic fire suppression systems, Hose reels, smoke detectors, and fire alarms or sirens.
• Participate in all training sessions and emergency drills.
• Always be on stand by and alert to respond to emergencies on both surface and underground.
• Ensure to undergo twelve (12) rescue practices in a year of which six should be held at underground as stated in the Minerals and Mining Regulations, 2012.LI2182 section 548
• Assist in the testing of the Breathing Apparatus as required.
• Clean and service assigned apparatus, maintaining it in a condition of readiness, report mechanical failures or difficulties and missing or damaged equipment to the proper authority.
• Attend to the Control Room.
• Assist in cleaning and keeping the Rescue Station tidy.
• Assist in organizing basic firefighting training and emergency drills for employees.
• Assist in conducting a rescue course for suitable employees.
• Assist in conducting self-contained self-Rescuer training for all underground employees.
• Comply and follow the operating procedures and environmental rules for the performance of the assigned job.
• Must correct, or report the Supervisor, any observed environmental deviations, practices and conditions as well make suggestions to improve any aspect of environmental management.
• Follow the established procedures if incident occur by reporting to the Supervisor

Qualification Required & Experience

• Certificate of Competency - Mine Rescue Certificate – Ghana Minerals Commission
• Certificate of Competency – Firefighting Certificate - Reputable or Recognized Organization
• Must have at least a SSCE /WASSCE in General Science Subject or a similar qualification from a recognized institution.
• Must be a qualified and a competent Advance First Aider.
• Physically and medically fit to AGA Standard
• Must be disciplined and abreast with Brigadesman Code of Ethics.
• Must be computer literate.
• Applicants with underground ventilation experience and occupational Hygiene background would be an advantage

Experience

• Must have at least 3 - 5 years working experience with exposure to underground and surface rescue operations.
• Must have an in-depth understanding and working knowledge of emergency procedures on both underground and surface.
• Must have considerable skill in assembling and testing of the BG4 Breathing Apparatus.
• Must have considerable knowledge in the use and operations of all firefighting and fire detection appliances and this include but not limited to portable fire extinguishers, fire Hose Reels, fire hydrants, smoke detectors, fire alarms.
• Must have in-depth knowledge in gas sampling and monitoring and smoke management.
• Ability to administer first aid.
• Must be able to inspect and identify hazards associated with firefighting equipment.
