🇨🇦 Fully Funded: 2024 Mastercard Foundation Scholarship Program at UBC for International Students

The University of British Columbia (UBC), in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation, is thrilled to announce the opening of applications for the 2024 Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.

This initiative is dedicated to offering comprehensive scholarships to students from Sub-Saharan Africa, enabling them to pursue their academic aspirations in Canada.

Focused on fostering access to education for academically gifted yet financially disadvantaged young individuals, the program is designed to help scholars develop leadership skills and a commitment to contributing positively to their communities and the broader social and economic landscape in Africa.

Eligibility Requirements

Candidates interested in the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program should meet these criteria:

  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Not possessing a graduate or PhD degree.
  • Age 35 or under at the time of application (born on or after 1988).
  • Citizenship or refugee status in a Sub-Saharan African country.
  • Significant life experience in a Sub-Saharan African country.
  • Economically disadvantaged background.
  • Demonstrated academic achievement despite challenges.
  • Leadership qualities or potential.
  • Interest and commitment to contributing to their home community.
  • Requirement of a Canadian study permit.
  • Non-asylum seeker or protected person status in Canada.
  • Intention to use skills for the betterment of others in Africa.
  • Applying for an eligible Master’s program at UBC’s Vancouver campus.

Eligible programs for this scholarship at UBC include:

  1. Faculty of Forestry:
    • Master of Sustainable Forest Management (MSFM)
    • Master of International Forestry (MIF)
    • Master of Geomatics for Environmental Management (MGEM)
  2. Faculty of Land and Food Systems:
    • Master of Food and Resource Economics (MFRE)
    • Master of Food Science (MFS)
    • Master of Land and Water Systems (MLWS)
  3. Faculty of Science:
    • Master of Data Science

Application Process

To apply, candidates should:

  • Complete the online Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program Application Form.
  • Prepare and submit the following documents:
    • Personal Statements
    • CV/Resume
    • Two reference letters on official letterhead
    • Academic Transcripts
  • Consolidate the application materials into a single PDF file and email it to mcfsp.admissions@ubc.ca.
