Stanford University is welcoming applications for the esteemed John S. Knight Journalism Fellowships for the academic year 2024-2025.

Fellowship Experience:

The JSK Fellowship provides a personalized journey enriched with bi-weekly cohort gatherings, leadership development sessions, skill-building workshops, and interactions with industry experts.

While the fellowship includes commitments to the cohort, participants enjoy considerable freedom to allocate their time and delve into journalism challenges of their choice.

Each fellow is partnered with a JSK director for regular guidance throughout the year, ensuring a tailored and impactful fellowship experience.

Eligibility Criteria:

The fellowship is accessible to:

  • Journalists from both U.S. and international backgrounds, including those from digital-native, legacy news outlets, independent journalism, and journalism innovators.
  • Professionals with a minimum of five years of full-time journalism experience. A college degree or traditional newsroom experience is not mandatory.
  • Individuals not currently engaged in public relations, government agencies, academic roles, or serving as trade or house newsletter/magazine contributors.
  • Note: The fellowship does not cater to book projects, reporting projects, nor acts as a business accelerator.

Committing to the JSK Fellowship means:

  • Residing at Stanford from September to June.
  • Full-time dedication to the fellowship’s activities.
  • Regular attendance at cohort and advisory meetings, along with other JSK events.
  • Actively sharing your work and insights throughout the year.
  • Collaborating with a diverse group of individuals, embracing a spectrum of ideas and experiences.

Applications should be submitted in English. If your work sample is in another language, include the original along with a brief English summary.

  • International applications are due by 1 p.m. PST on Wednesday, Dec 6, 2023.
  • U.S. applications must be submitted by 1 p.m. PST on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2024.
