The Lagos Agripreneurship Programme (LAP) was conceptualised by Mr Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu as an intervention programme aimed at creating jobs, alleviating poverty and ensuring food security through training and empowerment of women and youths in modern agricultural practices as Agripreneurs.

This is In line with the roles of the Ministry of Agriculture in the T.H.E.M.E.S. developmental agenda of the State Government which include Capacity Building, Wealth & Employment Generation, Ensuring Food Security, among others.

• Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified candidates for placement into a One-Month Training in Poultry, Piggery, Aquaculture, Vegetable Value Chains, E-Agric and Agribusiness at the Agricultural Training Institute, Araga, Epe. At the completion of training, participants will also undergo a minimum of 3 months internship and mentorship phase in their chosen value chains.
• Thereafter, successful participants will be linked to sources of finance for loan consideration.

Traders and salary earners can now access Nirsal Microfinance Bank Limited (NIRSAL MFB) loans following the introduction of two new products, namely, Salary Advance and SME Loan by the bank.

The management of the bank said the new products were part of its On-Balance Sheet Lending portfolio, for easy access to credit facilities by Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises that required affordable credit facilities to boost their businesses, and salary earners to cater for immediate/pressing needs.

Before now NIRSAL MFB’s SME loans were essentially for operators engaged in production, rather than trading.

With the new products, micro businesses and SMEs engaged in trading activities with daily sales can now access the bank’s facilities.

According to the management, “The loan sum accessible to this set of customers ranges from N50,000 to N250million, subject to a satisfactory turnover that covers the expected facility amount.

“This product is also open to petty traders in organized markets who have existing businesses and require credit facilities ranging from N50,000 to N300,000 to augment their business capital.

“The petty trader does not necessarily need to have account history with NMFB or any other bank to access the facility.

“‘The Salary Advance’ is for individuals in paid employment whose salaries have been consistent for 3 months, prior to making an application to the bank.”

The management said that staff of corporate organizations whose salary accounts were domiciled with NMFB could, easily, access the Salary Advance facility.

It described the interest rate for the products as very competitive with a streamlined documentation process for access to any of the above facilities from the Bank.

NMFB explained that the products were different from the government intervention products administered by the Bank.

Consequently, it said that applications for loan facilities within the On-Balance Sheet Lending portfolio would be appraised in line with the Risk Acceptance Criteria of the Bank.

It added that a loan product for the agriculture sector, covering farmers and all businesses in the agricultural value chain, would be launched within the year.

“Successful applicants of this product will, also, enjoy the benefits of the Federal Government Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme Fund (ACGSF), as well as the Interest Drawback Programme for farmers and businesses in the agricultural value chain.”

The Womenpreneur Pitch-a-ton Africa programme is designed to provide female owned businesses across Africa an opportunity to access finance, world-class business trainings as well as mentoring opportunities. This programme has been designed to create an enabling environment for female entrepreneurs to grow their businesses.

Launched in 2019, the Womenpreneur Pitch-a-ton program is the first women-in-business support initiative of its kind in the industry offered by Access Bank’s W Initiative. The program in its maiden edition provided a free mini-MBA certification for 50 women entrepreneurs in Nigeria as well as financial grants worth N9Million to the top 5 applicants. Eligibility Requirements

The following key criteria will be used in evaluating potential participants:
– Be at least 18 years of age. Having entrepreneurial experience will be an advantage. Could be a start-up or may have been established for some years already. Most importantly, the business should be solving a problem or meeting a need and should be scalable.

– Be available to commit to the training schedule

Certification requirements:

To be considered eligible to receive a certificate, you will be required to:
• Attend at least 80% of the sessions in each course and score at least 60% in each of course.
• Considered to be of good character as defined in the training policy to be signed upon acceptance.

The training will be in four phases:

Phase I: Entrepreneurship orientation and Business Management training (Duration: 3 months)
Phase II: Technical training to enhance the capacity of successful candidates from phase I (Duration will depend on the type of skill being learnt and the level of expertise of the selected candidates (may be 6mths-1yr)
Phase III: Apprenticeship/business incubation/mentoring opportunities: Experience applying the skill in the context of a bigger business(3mths -1 year). (Phase II and III may occur together in some instances).
Phase IV: Access to markets and funding: Platforms (online and offline) will be facilitated to provide access to wider markets. Where necessary, access to funding will also be facilitated.
These four phases are intended to comprehensively provide everything an entrepreneur needs to succeed. All four phases ensure that participants are groomed into entrepreneurs who can operate profitable, sustainable and transformative businesses within Nigeria, that serve markets in Africa and across the globe.
