What Is the MIT Summer Research Program?

MSRP is a nine-week immersive research initiative hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. From June 8 to August 8, 2026, selected students will work alongside MIT faculty, postdocs, and graduate mentors on cutting-edge research projects across a wide range of disciplines.

Who Should Apply?

• GPA of 3.5 or higher (major or overall)
• Sophomore, junior, or non-graduating senior (graduating after December 2026)
• Interested in pursuing a graduate degree at MIT (excluding Sloan MBA programs)
• Committed to academic research or teaching
• U.S. citizens, permanent residents, DACA recipients, or international students with valid work authorization

Students from underrepresented backgrounds, first-generation college students, and those attending institutions with limited research opportunities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Important Notes

Some MIT departments run separate summer programs and do not accept MSRP General applications. These include:
