What Is the Premier’s University Scholarship?

The Premier’s University Scholarship is a merit-based award funded by the Government of Western Australia. It’s designed to attract outstanding international students who will become future leaders and ambassadors for the state.

Each year, two scholarships of AUD 50,000 are granted at each of the five participating universities. The funding is applied directly as a tuition fee reduction in your first year(s) of study.

Scholarship Benefits

  • AUD 50,000 credited toward tuition fees
  • Non-renewable but substantial reduction in overall study costs
  • Open to full-time undergraduate, postgraduate and research programs (minimum two-year duration)

Participating Universities

Choose from five leading institutions in Perth and Fremantle:

  • The University of Western Australia (UWA)
  • Curtin University
  • Edith Cowan University (ECU)
  • Murdoch University
  • The University of Notre Dame Australia, Fremantle campus

Two exceptional students at each university will receive the award, for a total of ten scholarships in this round.

Eligible Programs

To qualify, your program must:

  • Be a full-time bachelor’s, master’s or research degree (including PhD)
  • Have a minimum duration of two years
  • Commence in Semester 1, 2026 (February/March intake)
  • Require on-campus study in Western Australia

Who Can Apply?

You’re eligible if you:

  • Hold citizenship of a designated country (e.g., India, China, Brazil, Vietnam, Kenya, UK and more)
  • Have an unconditional offer from one of the five WA universities for a full-time degree
  • Are a first-time student in Western Australia
  • Hold or can obtain an Australian subclass 500 Student Visa
  • Are not receiving any other state, institutional or Commonwealth scholarships at application time
  • Meet all academic, visa and financial documentation requirements

Application Timeline

  • Application portal opens: Friday, 1 August 2025 at 9:00 AM AWST
  • University-specific deadlines: generally November 2025 for Semester 1, 2026 intake
  • Make sure to apply early and check each university’s internal deadline

  1. Secure your full offer of admission from one of the five universities.
  2. Prepare the required documents (offer letter, academic transcripts, visa evidence, financial statements).
